Review of the Day

Transfers

Nottingham Forest have completed the double signing of Benfica players Joao Carvalho and Diogo Goncalves. Carvalho has arrived for a club record fee in excess of £13m and he has signed a 5 year deal. Goncalves is on a one year deal and includes an option to buy at the end of the season.

Anthony O'Connor has signed for Bradford City on a free transfer from Aberdeen.

Free agent midfielder Jordan Thompson has joined Blackpool following his release from Rangers.

Free agent Jordan Williams has returned to Rochdale following his release by Liverpool. The 22 year old spent most of last season on loan with Rochdale.

Celta Vigo have made a double signing. Nestor Araujo has joined from Santos in Mexico on an undisclosed fee. Celta spent over £5m to bring in Turkish midfielder Okay Yokuslu from Trabzonspor.

Belgian midfielder Samuel Bastien has signed for Standard Liege from Chievo for 3m euros.

In Major League Soccer, Seattle Sounders have spent just under £6m to bring in Peruvian forward Raul Ruidiaz from Mexican side Monarcas.

Sampdoria have brought in a Ferrari defender. Alex Ferrari has left Bologna on loan for Samp for the season.

Former England Captain Gets National Job

Former England defender Terry Butcher gets the chance to be the first man to lead the Philippines into the Asian Cup after being appointed as their new head coach. Previous head coach Thomas Dooley had led them to qualifying for the first time in their history, but his contract expired in March. Butcher has not managed since 2015, when he was sacked by Newport County.

Bielsa Agrees Leeds Deal

Former Chile and Argentina coach Marcelo Bielsa has agreed a deal to take charge of Championship side Leeds United next season. The Argentine coach, who Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino calls his 'football father', was sacked by Lille in December. One thing is for sure, next season will be exciting to watch at Leeds, with a manager who loves a high press, fast attacking system and is extremely fiery.

Griezmann To Stay

France forward Antoine Griezmann has finally settled the yawn-inducing 'will he, won't he' saga over his move to Barcelona by announcing his decision to stay at Atletico Madrid in a TV documentary called 'La Decision'. I am just in shock that anyone would think it was a good idea to make a programme about it or watch it. Griezmann must have an ego to dwarf Cristiano Ronaldo's, but without anything like the talent.

Balotelli Given Two Match Diving Ban

Nice striker Mario Balotelli has been given a two match ban for simulation after going to ground to get Ismael Diomande sent off against Caen. Balotelli was clean through on goal when he flopped to the ground without any noticeable contact being made.

Dundee United Go For A Burger

Former defender Werner Burger has been appointed as first team coach at Dundee United. The German was head coach under Csaba Laszlo at Hearts and has now been reunited with the Arabs.

Former Watford Chairman Banned For Life

Raffaele Riva, the former chairman of Watford, has been banned from English football for life after admitting to submitting a forged letter to the English Football League in 2014. The funding letter was provided during the club's change of ownership to the Pozzo family and was found to be 'not authentic'. Riva was also fined £50,000 and ordered to pay legal costs of £65,000. Riva will be able to seek a review of the suspension no sooner than 2nd November 2026. Watford were fined £4.3m by the EFL in August over the faked letter.
