Review of the Day

Transfers

Grimsby Town have signed free agent striker Jordan Cook. The 28 year old had been released by Luton Town.

Newport County have taken two players from Forest Green Rovers. Winger Keanu Marsh-Brown has signed on a permanent deal and midfielder Charlie Cooper has joined on a season-long loan.

Peterborough United have picked up young forward Siriki Dembele for an undisclosed fee. The 21 year old has arrived from Grimsby Town, who he joined in May 2017 after a successful trial. Going out from the Posh was another forward, Ricky Miller, who headed to Port Vale.

Macclesfield Town have made a double signing. Forward Ben Stephens has moved from non-league Stratford Town, where he won their three player of the year awards. He followed on the heels of defender Jamie Grimes, who moved from manager Mark Yates' former club Cheltenham Town.

Another club making two signings has been Southend United, who have picked up Harry Lennon and Sam Mantom for undisclosed fees. Lennon came from Charlton Athletic and Mantom from Scunthorpe United.

Hull City have signed USA international full-back Eric Lichaj from Championship rivals Nottingham Forest for an undisclosed fee. Leaving Hull, to join former Tigers' boss Leonid Slutsky at Vitesse Arnhem, is Max Clark for a compensation fee.

Former Manchester United academy player Joe Rothwell has left Oxford United to move to Blackburn Rovers for an undisclosed fee.

St Mirren have made their third signing of the Alan Stubbs era with winger Jeff King arriving from Bolton Wanderers.

Christian Walton has returned to Wigan Athletic on loan for the season. The 22 year old Brighton & Hove Albion keeper was on loan with the Latics last season as they won League One. Coming in to the Seagulls was another keeper, Jason Steele, who has arrived from Sunderland.

Clarence Seedorf's nephew (I wonder if commentators will repeatedly refer to that the way they do with Jay Jay Okocha's nephew) Sherwin Seedorf has joined Bradford City on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers. The deal is set to run until January.

Southampton have been given permission to talk to Celtic midfielder Stuart Armstrong after agreeing a fee with the Scottish champions.

Young Chinese defender Yuning Zhang has gone out on loan from recently relegated West Bromwich Albion to Eredivisie side ADO Den Haag.

Real Madrid have completed the £7m+ signing of 19 year old Ukrainian keeper Andriy Lunin from Zorya Luhansk.

Polish keeper Lukasz Skorupski and Italian defender Arturo Calabresi have moved to Bologna from AS Roma. Bologna have paid over £8m to take the 27 year old keeper from their Serie A rivals. Calabresi's fee is undisclosed. Bologna have also signed Paraguay striker Federico Santander from FC Copenhagen for over £5m.

Incoming to Roma is Justin Kluivert from Ajax for £15.5m. The Roman giants also sold young Italian forward Marco Tumminello to Atalanta for £4.5m. Goalkeeper Antonio Mirante came the other way from Skorupski, joining from Bologna for a fee of under £4m.

Getafe have taken Spanish forward Sergi Guardiola from Cordoba on loan.

French midfielder Vincent Pajot has left Saint-Etienne to join Angers.

Darijo Srna has returned to Serie A at the age of 36. The Croatian defender has left Shakhtar Donetsk on a free transfer to join Cagliari.

Left-back Konan has joined Reims from Vitoria Guimaraes.

Serbian attacking midfielder Filip Djuricic has joined Sassuolo on a free transfer from Sampdoria. Another player leaving Samp was goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano, who has headed to Sporting Clube De Portugal to replace Rui Patricio.

Hull City have released full-back Moses Adubajo.

Lazio have paid just under £6m to sign left-back Riza Durmisi from Real Betis.

Hummels Out Of Sweden Game

No, not the kit manufacturer, the defender Mats Hummels has been ruled out of Germany's World Cup clash with Sweden with a neck injury he suffered in training. The defender himself is still holding onto slim hopes of being fit, but manager Joachim Loew has ruled him out.

Van Bommel Takes Charge At PSV

With Phillip Cocu off to Fenerbahce, PSV Eindhoven have appointed former national team-mate Mark van Bommel as head coach of the current Eredivisie champions. Van Bommel is currently in Russia as assistant to father-in-law Bert van Marwijk with the Australian national team. Van Bommel had two stints as a player and one as a youth coach with PSV in the past.

Forsberg Drops Move Hint

Swedish forward Emil Forsberg has attracted the eye of big clubs around Europe with his performances for RB Leipzig over the last couple of seasons, now he has suggested it is time for him to take one of those moves. Forsberg told Fotbollskanalen: "I'm ready for the next big step. That's going to be very interesting. I am in dialogue with RB and always had a good relationship with the club. I have the dream of playing for the strongest clubs in the world."

Owners Of Cubs Look To Buy Milan

The family who own Major League Baseball side Chicago Cubs, the Ricketts, have confirmed they are interested in buying Serie A's AC Milan. With Milan's current owner struggling to make payments due, the family have stepped forward to express an interest in rescuing the situation. A statement read: "The entire family and the family's financial resources are involved in this matter. The Ricketts family brought a championship to the Chicago Cubs through long-term investment and being great stewards of the team ... They would bring this same approach to AC Milan."

Kovacic Wants A Move

Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic has admitted he wants to move. Kovacic told MARCA: "I want to play more and it's better for me to leave Real Madrid. I love football and I love being on the pitch, so I want the opportunity to be a starter. I'm not happy when I'm not playing."
