Transfers

Forward Callum Lang has joined Oldham Athletic on loan from Wigan Athletic until January. The teenager signed a new contract with Wigan before heading out for the loan spell.

Bolton Wanderers have "reluctantly agreed to allow" Adam Le Fondre to leave on a free transfer. The 31 year old striker has a move lined up to take what he describes as an "opportunity of a lifetime" with an overseas club. The only real question when opportunity knocks is whether it is Hughie Green, Bob Monkhouse or Les Dawson hosting it?

Cameroon legend Samuel Eto'o is joining Xavi and Wesley Sneijder in the Qatari Stars League. Eto'o, now 37 years old, left Konyaspor by mutual consent earlier in the month. Qatar Sports Club announced the signing on social media and are due to hold a press conference to present him.

AS Roma have signed France midfielder Steven Nzonzi for an initial fee of around £24m. The 29 year old leaves Sevilla after three years with the Spanish giants.

Chelsea have received a loan fee of £4.5m from AC Milan for Tiemoue Bakayoko, who has joined the Serie A leviathans on a season-long loan deal. Ola Aina has also left Chelsea for a loan in Serie A, but Aina will be with Torino for the next year.

Paraguay international defender Junior Alonso has moved to Celta Vigo on loan for the season from LOSC Lille.

Young Icelandic winger Albert Gudmundsson, who got five minutes of action in the recent World Cup, has joined AZ Alkmaar from PSV Eindhoven.

Parma have paid SSC Napoli a loan fee of £1.8m to borrow Alberto Grassi for the season. They have also paid £2.7m for the loan of Roberto Inglese from the same club.

Italian centre back Federico Barba has moved to Chievo Verona for a fee of over £2.5m from Sporting Gijon.

Sampdoria have signed Swedish midfielder Albin Ekdal from Hamburg SV for a fee of just under £2m.

Former Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder Alex Song has found himself a new club. The Cameroonian has signed for Swiss Super League side FC Sion.

Valencia have signed Denis Cheryshev on loan from Villareal.

Egypt Set To Allow Fans Back Into League Matches

Egypt's ban on spectators attending league matches will be partially lifted from the 1st of September. Following that date a maximum of 5,000 people at a time will be allowed into stadia. This is the second attempt at lifting the ban imposed by the government after 74 Al Ahly fans died during a match with Al Masry in 2012. There was one previous attempt to gradually return to normal in 2015, but one of the first matches to allow fans back in saw 22 Zamalek fans die in a stampede, so the ban was re-imposed in full. Fingers crossed there will be no problems this time around.

Hereford United Legend Convicted Of Money Laundering

The man who scored the winning goal for Hereford United to knock Newcastle United out of the FA Cup in 1972 has been jailed for money laundering. Now 72, Ricky George, has received a two year sentence, while his 40 year old son, Adam, was also jailed for 15 months. The pair sold a house without the knowledge or consent of the owner and then, with the help of Ricky's friend Charles Jogi, laundered the money through their bank accounts. Jogi was also convicted of money laundering and was sentenced to 200 hours of community service.

Mandzukic Announces International Retirement

One of Croatia's heroes on their run to the World Cup final in the summer has retired from international football. Juventus' striker Mario Mandzukic has decided to call it a day at the age of 32. Mandzukic said: "As much as the silver fills me with new energy, it makes it easier to make this impossible decision. This month, as well as the arrival home, will remain the most important memory of my career. It was the most beautiful trip. I am overjoyed, filled with heaven, proud of the silver we have been fighting for for years, through a lot of effort, disappointment, and heavy moments. There is no ideal time to go. If we can, I believe that we all would play for Croatia so long as we're still alive because there is no greater pride. But I feel that the moment is for me now."

La Liga Sells Hosting Rights To Facebook

Facebook has bought exclusive rights to show Spanish football on the Indian sub-continent. For the next three seasons the anti-social network will be the only legal place for viewers in India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, The Maldives, Sri Lanka and Pakistan to watch La Liga. Initially facebook have said the streams will be free and advertising-free, while they figure out how best to implement adverts.

The Ronaldo Discharged From Hospital

Former World Cup winner, the Ronaldo, has been discharged from hospital in Ibiza after recovering from pneumonia. The 41 year old has now returned home to continue his recuperation. For those that ask why I call him The Ronaldo, as opposed to just Ronaldo here is a little taster:

If only he had Cristiano Ronaldo's lifestyle and dedication, instead of the party lifestyle, he would have been in the argument for the greatest player ever to play the game alongside Pele and Maradona.
