Review of the Day

Transfers

Birmingham City's Senegalese international Cheikh Ndoye has returned to Angers. The 32 year old arrived from Angers in July 2017 and will now see out the final year of his Blues contract in France.

Teenage winger Luke Thomas has joined Coventry City on loan until January from Derby County.

Young Arsenal defender Krystian Bielik has joined Charlton Athletic on loan for the season.

Teenage defender Mitchell Clark has joined Port Vale on loan from Aston Villa for the season.

Rotherham United have taken midfielder Ryan Manning on a season long loan deal from QPR.

Former Celtic loanee Patrick Roberts has joined Girona on a season-long loan from Manchester City. Roberts has been on loan with Celtic over the last two and a half seasons, but struggled to hold down a place last season. Girona are part-owned by City's ownership groud and Pep Guardiola's brother Pere.

PSG spend big to sign Germany's Under-21 captain Thilo Kehrer from Schalke 04. The Parisians have spent in excess of £30m to buy the 21 year old.

Italian winger Alessio Cerci has left Hellas Verona on a free transfer to join Turkish Super Lig side Ankaragucu.

Barcelona's Brazilian centre-back Marlon has moved to Sassuolo for over £5m.

Montpellier have spent just under £3m to sign French centre-forward Gaetan Laborde from Girondins Bordeaux.

Sassuolo have paid £500k+ to sign midfielder Marco Pinato from Venezia and immediately sent him back there on loan.

Arsenal's Costa Rican winger Joel Campbell has once again gone out on loan, this time to Frosinone in Serie A.

Former Newcastle United midfielder Remy Cabella has joined St-Etienne for a fee of £4.5m from Marseille.

Gunners Suffer Maitland-Niles Fracture

It seems like some things have not changed under Unai Emery as Arsenal suffer a mini-injury crisis to start the season. With Sead Kolasinac out until October and Nacho Monreal just returning to training, midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles was expected to continue filling in at left-back. However the youngster has suffered a fractured leg in Arsenal's defeat to Manchester City on the opening weekend of the season and will be missing for 6 to 8 weeks. Another full-back, Carl Jenkinson, is also out for the same amount of time, which will scupper the fringe players chance of a loan move this month. The good news is that the ever-reliable (if by reliable you mean you can rely on him to be injured when you need him) Danny Welbeck is back in training, though club captain Laurent Koscielny is still recuperating from his achilles surgery.

Camara Retires From Football

Senegal's most-capped player ever with 99 caps has retired from football at the age of 41. Henri Camara has had a much-travelled career, including a spell with Wolverhampton Wanderers, who loaned him to Southampton and Celtic during his time there. During his time in England, he also played for West Ham United, Stoke City and Sheffield United. During his career he has played in France, Greece, Switzerland, as well as England and Scotland.

Genoa And Samp Postpone Games

Following the bridge collapse that killed 39 people in Genoa, games involving the two local clubs, Genoa and Sampdoria, have been postponed. Genoa were due to play AC Milan and Samp were set to play Fiorentina. New dates for the games have yet to be confirmed.

England Move Up To 6th In World Rankings

Following their run to the World Cup semi-finals, despite beating no country of any quality and being beaten by the only good sides they face, England have moved up six places in the FIFA world rankings. Germany are the big losers, dropping from first down to 15th. Beaten finalists Croatia shot up 16 places in the rankings.
FIFA Rankings:
1. France (+6)
2. Belgium (+1)
3. Brazil (-1)
4. Croatia (+16)
5. Uruguay (+9)
6. England (+6)
7. Portugal (-3)
8. Switzerland (-2)
9= Spain (+1)
9= Denmark (+3)
19. Wales (-1)
27. Northern Ireland (+2)
29. Republic of Ireland (+2)

US To Host La Liga Game

Spain's top flight, La Liga, will hold a league match in the USA as part of a 15-year partnership with the media company, Relevent, who organise the International Champions Cup. No details have yet been confirmed, but it will be the first time a Spanish top flight game will take place in a foreign country. However, the Spanish footballers' union has hit out at the plan with their statement reading: "As usual, La Liga has ignored the opinion of players and compromises them with actions which only the league benefits from, without showing any consideration for the health of players and much less the sentiment of fans of the clubs..."

Referee Quits Premier League

The Premier League has lost one of its 18 full-time professional referees after Bobby Madley has quit. Madley is just 32 and has officiated 91 matches in the top flight.
