Premier League 2018/2019 Top 6 Prediction

My thoughts on how this football season might unfold.

1.

Manchester City

- will pick up from where they left last season . Judging by the way they brushed aside Chelsea without some of their key players in the charity shield, I would even say they will likely run away with the cup by a big margin. Adding Mahrez who we all know is unplayable, has strengthened city beyond anyone's dreams. Only an earthquake can stop them from winning the league again. Total points: 94 top goal scorer: Jesus, player of the season: KDB.

2.

Liverpool

- Look like city's biggest rivals on paper. There is a lot of talk about how they are trying to buy the league. They have bought well and strengthened in areas they were weak. Position to position, City is still slightly better than Liverpool and this might play a huge factor in the title race. For Liverpool to Catch City, maybe they need to spend another 250m which we all know is almost impossible. However, the Reds now have depth and enough talented players to come from the bench and change games. Liverpool didn't finish 4th due to losses against top six teams but losses and draws against lesser teams. If they can sort this out they will surely mount a title challenge. Games are however not won on paper, and if Liverpool are to win the league they will have to work a lot harder. Total points: 90 top goal scorer: Salah , player of the season: Naby Keita

3.

Manchester united

- the same team finished 2nd last season and has strengthened even more. I don't even know why pundits are writing them off. Mourinho might have mourned about the lack of transfers but the truth is, even with the current back four, and judging by their first game's result, they will be a very difficult team to score against. If Mourinho can find a way to bring Sanchez's form back, they will be a force again. Although they have depth in the squad, last season showed us that they lacked plan B. United will not falter against small teams . If they are to mount a serious challenge then they have to start beating the top 6 teams and not just play for a draw. Total points: 79, top goal scorer: Lukaku, player of the season: David De Gea

4.

Chelsea

- finished 5th last season with 70 points. They are a team in transition now. They have bought well and their midfield ( Kante, Jorginho and Kovacic) is as strong if not better than some of their rivals. Their defense has always been good and I expect them to try to do better this season. They have managed to keep their key players even after both Barcelona (Willian) and Real Madrid ( Hazard) aggressively pursued them. Sirri, if we have to believe what Pep said, is an attack minded coach. The team will have to adapt to his style of play and change in formation to a 433. Chelsea has always surprised when we least expect it. Chelsea is a big club and will want to get back into the champions league. Total points: 74 top goal scorer: Morrata, player of the season: Hazard

5.

Arsenal

- Have a new coach now. Everyone was tired of Wenger. They now have a renewed sense of hope. Their front three is good and can damage any team on its day. They have bought well and improved their squad depth. Their biggest problem has always been defense. If they manage to sort it out I expect them to try and push into the top 4. That said, new coach, new players and new playing style might affect their progress. But if the pre-season defines what lies ahead surely all arsenal fans have a reason to be excited. Total points: 68 top goal scorer: Aubameyang , player of the season: Aubameyang

6.

Spurs

- they have not bought a single player and have became the first team in the history of the EPL ( since 2003) to not sign anyone. There are positives though, they kept almost all their star players. Harry Kane has managed to score more than 25 goals in each of the previous seasons. He has matured and will want to prove a point again. Keeping Alderweireld will be key in their defense. Position to position they now look light weight than their rivals. Their supporters have already started requesting for answers on why the team didn't strengthen. If there is one thing I have learnt, the supporters play a huge part in how their team perform especially when playing at home. Spurs will need all the support and belief to challenge and stay in the top 4. A lot of work will have to be done though. Total points: 65 top goal scorer: Kane, player of the season: Eriksen
