Review of the Day

Contracts

Young AC Milan goalkeeper Alessandro Plizzari has extended his deal until 2023.

Veteran midfielder Adam Bodzek has signed a new deal with Fortuna Dusseldorf which runs until 2020.

Ayr United have given Alan Forrest an extra year. The 22 year is now tied down until 2020.

Inter Milan centre back Andrea Ranocchia has extended until 2021.

Transfers

Manchester City have spent over £7m to sign USA international keeper Zack Steffen from Major League Soccer side Columbus Crew. The player will complete the move on the 9th July.

Athletic Bilbao are to release Spanish midfield duo Mikel Rico and Ander Iturraspe in the summer.

Pierre-Michel Lasogga is to leave Hamburg in the summer. Hamburg will be bringing in David Kinsombi from Holstein Kiel for just under £3m in the summer. They have also agreed a deal to bring in Jeremy Dudziak from FC St. Pauli in the summer on a free.

Young Greek striker Vangelis Pavlidis will join Willem II from VfL Bochum in the summer.

VfL Wolfsburg have agreed a deal to sign Kevin Mbabu from BSC Young Boys in the summer.

Werder Bremen will spend just under £6m to sign Niclas Fullkrug from Hannover 96 in the summer.

Young goalkeeper Kjell Scherpen is set to join Ajax in the summer from FC Emmen. Young Belgian midfielder Razvan Marin will swap Standard Liege for Ajax in a summer deal worth over £11m.

Genoa have agreed to pay over £5m to sign midfielder Lukas Lerager from Girondins Bordeaux in the summer.

Manchester United will release veteran Antonio Valencia in the summer when his contract expires.

Ajax have agreed to pay Heerenveen over £4m to sign teenage centre back Kik Pierie in the summer.

Eintracht Frankfurt have paid over £6m to make Luka Jovic's loan deal a permanent one from Benfica.

Real Betis will pay just under £20m to sign Giovani Lo Celso from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.

Harold Moukoudi will join Saint-Etienne on a free deal from Le Havre in the summer.

Thomas Pledl will also make a free transfer in the summer. He will join Fortuna Dusseldorf from FC Ingolstadt.

Paddy McGuinness To Retire

In news that will come as a shock to anyone who has seen him play over the last few years, John O'Shea had not retired already but is set to in the summer. The 38 year old (who plays like a much older man) signed for Reading in the summer from Sunderland. Amazingly, in proof that being a great (or even good) player is not necessary to be a winner in a team game, O'Shea has amassed a medal collection which has 14 trophies, including 5 Premier League winning medals and a FIFA World Club Cup as well as 118 caps for the Republic of Ireland.

Bamford Faces FA Charges

After going down holding his face to get Aston Villa's Anwar El Ghazi sent off, despite the Villa man doing nothing, Leeds United forward Patrick Bamford has been charged with "successful deception of a match official". El Ghazi's red card has also been rescinded. Surprisingly Villa's Conor Hourihane is to escape punishment for punching Leeds' Mateusz Klich in the stomach after the FA's panel decided his actions were not violent conduct.

Bolton Problems Go On

The EFL have confirmed that Bolton Wanderers' postponed match with Brentford will not take place during the week, as first expected, despite this weekend being the final weekend of the season. There is more bad news for the club's fans as prospective owner Laurence Bassini has been told to provide more proof that he has the funds required for a takeover to go through by both current owner Ken Anderson and the EFL. Bolton have up to 4 days after the season ends on Sunday to play the outstanding fixture versus Brentford.

Abdullahi Forced To Retire

Nigerian defender Nura Abdullahi has been forced to retire from playing on medical advice at the age of just 21 years old. The AS Roma player had been placed on a 'period of rest' by the club after heart tests in March 2018.

Wagner Set For Schalke Job

David Wagner is set to take charge at Schalke 04. The German left Huddersfield Town in January to take a break from the game, and has been in talks with Schalke over replacing caretaker Huub Stevens as a permanent team coach.

Spurs Claim Protocol Was Followed In Vertonghen Head Injury

Despite it being clear to anyone watching that Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen should not have been brought back onto the field after a clash of heads with team-mate Toby Alderweireld, to the point that even the 4th official and referee questioned the decision repeatedly before allowing him back on, Spurs have claimed that the correct protocols were followed. After he was brought back on, following assessment by the medical staff, he doubled over and it looked like he vomited before having to be helped from the pitch.
