Review of the Day

Contracts

Fleetwood Town forward Paddy Madden has a new deal which runs until 2022.

Transfers

Scottish midfielder Graeme Shinnie will leave Aberdeen in the summer to join Derby County on a free transfer.

Diego Godin will leave Atletico Madrid in the summer. The legendary Uruguayan centre back has spent 9 years at the club. He looks to be set for a move to Inter Milan on a free.

Bristol City release Frank Fielding, Eros Pisano and Stefan Marinovic. Goalkeeper Fielding was with the club since 2013 and was the keeper for their League One title win in 2014/15. Pisano had only joined from Verona in 2017, while Marinovic was only on a short term deal.

Brentford release five players. Defender Yoann Barbet, midfielder Lewis Macleod, former Chelsea midfielder Josh McEachran, goalkeeper Jack Bonham and right back Moses Odubajo are the quintet who will leave in the summer.

Dundee defender Darren O'Dea is to retire in the summer to move into full-time coaching.

Matty Warburton will join League Two's Northampton Town for next season from Stockport County.

Also in League Two Carlisle Unoted have signed Jack Iredale from Greenock Morton.

In Major League Soccer Chicago Fire have signed goalkeeper Kenneth Kronholm from German side Holstein Kiel.

Seattle Sounders have made a pair of signings. Defender Xavier Arreaga has arrived from Barcelona SC, an Ecuadorian team. Joevin Jones, who can play in midfield or defence, has joined from German team SV Darmstadt 98, having left Sounders in 2017 to join the Germans.

Tan Wants Colin To Stay

Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan has backed Neil Warnock to carry on as manager of the Bluebirds. Tan said: "I am happy for Neil to stay and achieve his ninth promotion." Hardly surprising, Tan looks like a Bond villain and Warnock acts like one on the sidelines, they must be a match made in heaven!

Bolton Takeover Hits Rocks

Laurence Bassini has still not provided proof of funds to complete his proposed takeover of Bolton Wanderers leaving the club on the verge of administration. Bolton are due back in court over a £1.2m unpaid tax bill, after two previous adjournments to allow a takeover to happen.

Benali Completes 5 Iron Man Triathlons In A Week

Former Southampton defender Francis Benali complete 5 Ironman triathlons in a week, despite being hospitalised after the first 4 in 4 days! Benali's latest attempt to raise money for Cancer Research UK, who he has raised over £950,000 for since retiring from playing, saw him swim 12 miles, complete 5 marathons running and cycle over 500 miles in a week. The 50 year old had aimed to do 7 in 7 days but had to be hospitalised after the first 4 days due to being simply unable to eat enough calories to fuel his attempt. Benali was suffering with blurred vision, and found himself stumbling over kerbs. However he was able to recover enough to complete his challenge with a run in the Southampton Marathon on Sunday.

Poch Drops Leave Hint

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has suggested he would leave if he picked up his first trophy with Spurs this season. Pochettino said: "To win in these circumstances this season, maybe I need to think about maybe doing something different in the future. Winning the Champions League? It should be fantastic, no? Close the five-year chapter and go home. We are living a dream. Five years ago when we arrived it was to reduce the gap to the top four, and then to have the possibility to play in the Champions League. I think nobody would believe we would be playing in the Champions League three seasons in a row and competing at this stage."

Suarez Criticises Barca Performance

After Liverpool beat Barcelona 4-0 at Anfield to knock Barca out of the Champions League at the semi-final stage 4-3, Luis Suarez criticised his side, which he said "looked like schoolboys". Suarez, who kept his promise not to celebrate at Anfield, said: "We have to be ready for all the criticism that is going to rain down on us now. We are very sad, we are in a lot of pain. For their fourth goal we looked like schoolboys."

Milan Midfielder Banned For Slapping Ref

AC Milan's midfielder Lucas Paqueta has been handed a 3 match ban for slapping a referee during a Serie A match against Bologna. Brazilian starlet Paqueta gave the referee a "light slap" on the arm and was sent off.

Bakayoko Denies Gattuso's Claims

After AC Milan manager Gennaro Gattuso told the media that on-loan Chelsea midfielder Timoue Bakayoko that he took too long to warm up, Bakayoko denied it on social media. Gattuso said: "I told Bakayoko to warm up, but it took him eight minutes to get ready." Gattuso had sent on Jose Mauri to replace the injured Lucas Biglia instead. But Bakayoko said: "It has been several weeks since I was spoken about in the press but I decided to say nothing and continue to work. What happened tonight and the interpretation people are trying to give to it compel me to react immediately, because I do not accept that I should be considered a player who refuses to enter the field when his coach asks him and who does not respect his club and his team-mates. I was ready to give 200 per cent even if I had to play only five minutes tonight. When Lucas started to suffer on the ground, I was asked to prepare myself in case there was a change. So I prepared myself immediately and went to warm up for 2/3 minutes maximum. Then I was asked to return to the bench. That all happened I think between the 23rd minute and the 26th. It's when I sit on the bench that the coach speaks to me in unexpected terms and I only repeat his words. Nothing more. Let it be clear: I have never refused to come on to play and I do not get overheated. It seems to me that the images speak for themselves. I had only one desire, to enter the field and help my team-mates as I have always done and as I will do until the end of the season."
