Transfers

Arsenal have paid £27m to sign defender William Saliba from Saint-Etienne and then immediately sent the teenager back on a season-long loan deal. Joining Arsenal on loan is Spanish midfielder Dani Ceballos from Real Madrid.

Also sold by Saint-Etienne was French midfielder Remy Cabella, who joined FC Krasnodar in Russia for just under £11m. They have also loaned winger Vagner to AS Nancy.

Former England striker Darren Bent has retired at the age of 35.

SPAL have released Italian midfielder Pasquale Schiatteralla.

Queens Park Rangers have signed American international utility Geoff Cameron on a free transfer from Stoke City.

Aston Villa have paid over £15m for Brazilian midfielder Douglas Luiz from Manchester City.

Former Tottenham Hotspur forward Clinton N'Jie has left Marseille to join Dinamo Moscow for around £5m.

Watford defender Ben Wilmot has joined Swansea City on loan. They have also sent Marc Navarro on loan to Leganes. Joining Watford is Tom Dele-Bashiru on a free transfer from Manchester City.

Hellas Verona have taken Salvatore Bocchetti on a free transfer from Spartak Moscow.

Crystal Palace have completed the permanent signing of Jordan Ayew from Swansea City. The Ghana forward was on loan with the Eagles last season and the deal has been made permanent for around £2.5m. Also leaving Swansea City is captain Leroy Fer, who has signed for Feyenoord on a free.

RB Leipzig have completed the signing of Ademola Lookman from Everton for an initial fee of just over £16m.

Brighton & Hove Albion have loaned their Ecuadorian winger Billy Arce to Ecuador side Barcelona SC.

Shaun Miller has re-signed for Morecambe on a season-long loan from Crewe Alexandra. Moving the same way, but on a free transfer, is teenage midfielder Joe Lynch. Also joining Morecambe is Lewis Alessandra, who is returning after his release by Notts County.

Newport County have signed Tristan Abrahams on a free transfer from Norwich City.

Owen Evans has joined Macclesfield Town on a season long loan move from Wigan Athletic.

Mansfield Town have paid an undisclosed fee for Kellan Gordon from Derby County.

Gillingham have made the double free transfer signing of Mark Marshall and Mikael Mandron. Marshall had been released by Charlton Athletic, while Mandron had been let go by Colchester United.

Lincoln City's FA Cup hero Matt Rhead has left the club to join Billericay Town for an undisclosed fee.

Sunderland have paid an undisclosed fee for midfielder George Dobson from Walsall.

DR Congo striker Christy Manzinga has signed for Motherwell after impressing on trial.

Roma legend Daniele de Rossi has moved to Argentina to sign for Boca Juniors after rejecting the chance to become a director at the Rome giants.

 

Injury Round Up

Kemar Roofe is set to be out for a month after suffering an ankle injury. The 26 year old will miss the start of the season after picking up the knock against Western Sydney Warriors on Leeds United's pre-season trip to Australia.

West Bromwich Albion's Egyptian defender Ahmed Hegazi will also miss the start of the season with an ankle problem. The 28 year old centre back has had surgery which will rule him out until September.

 

Klopp Rules Out Coutinho Return

Jurgen Klopp has told ESPN that Philippe Coutinho will not be returning to Liverpool, despite Barcelona's desire to sell the Brazilian. Klopp said: "In general, Phil Coutinho helps each team in the world, still - 100%. It's not about that. I like Phil, I think he's a fantastic footballer and all that stuff, but it would be a big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big-money signing and it's not our year for that. It's just not possible. As I said, having him would make each team better - us included - but I really hope that he finds his luck at Barcelona."

 

Villa To Make Marvelous Signing

Aston Villa are are set to sign Zimbabwe international Marvelous Nakamba after he refused to train with current club Club Brugge. Brugge rejected Villa's initial offer and the midfielder has decided to force his way out of the Belgian side.

 

Bury Warned They Could Be Expelled From EFL

Bury have been warned by the EFL that they need to provide assurances they can meet their CVA or face expulsion from the league. An EFL spokesman said: "The EFL Board will meet in the next 24 hours to consider the various matters in respect of Bury FC following the expiry of today's deadline imposed on the club in regard to the outstanding information required by the EFL. A further update will be issued following the conclusion of that meeting."

 

Ahly Win League Again

The Egyptian Premier League title has once more been won by Al Ahly to make it 41 domesic league titles for Egypt's most successful club. The league had been delayed while the AFCON was hosted in the country and Ahly returned with a 3-1 win away to Arab Contractors to win the league with a match to spare.

 

Zimbabwe Coach Resigns

The national team head coach of Zimbabwe, Sunday Chidzambga, has resigned just days before a CHAN (African Nations Championship) qualifier against Mauritius. The Zimbabwe FA (ZIFA) announced: "It is with a deep sense of shock that we have received the untimely resignation of Sunday Marimo Chidzambga from the position of Head Coach of the Men A team, the Warriors, at a precarious time, when the nation and team needed his wise counsel."

 

Spurs Agree New Shirt Deal

Tottenham Hotspur have renewed their shirt sponsorship deal with insurance company AIA in a deal worth £320m over 8 years. That follows on from their accounts revealing a world-record after tax profit of £113m for the 2017/18 season.

 

Bruce Will Not Be Yes Man

New Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce has denied he will be a yes man for hated owner Mike Ashley. Bruce, who grew up supporting the Toon, said: "I think you've known me long enough. I'm not going to be anybody's yes man. I'm too long in the tooth for that. I've heard it said that I'm a puppet or not in charge of transfers or what have you, but I can only report on how he's been with myself and he's been straight down the line in the conversations I've had. That can only be a good thing. I'm not his bag man or anything else. I will certainly be my own man, I always have. All I can ask is to be given a chance. Whoever was going to be sitting here would find it difficult with the support (Benitez) had from the fans - it was quite phenomenal. Unbelievable. Whoever was sitting here would have big shoes to fill, but let me have a crack. I had the conversation and there was money to spend. It was all positive in that respect. There is proof already."

 

Fabregas Given Driving Ban

Former Chelsea and Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas, now at Monaco, has been banned from driving for 6 months after being caught doing 68mph in a 40mph zone. The 32 year old was caught by a speed trap in December and pled guilty to speeding in court, receiving six more points on his license, to add to the six he already had and a £750 fine.

 

Kluivert Back At Barca

Barcelona have appointed their former striker Patrick Kluivert as director of their La Masia youth academy on a 2 year contract. Kluivert was fired from a job as Cameroon's assistant coach earlier this month.

 

Arsenal Stars In Attempted Carjacking

Arsenal duo Mesut Ozil and Sead Kolasinac were targeted by knifewielding thugs on a moped. Kolasinac showed the buccaneering spirit that has made him a cult hero with the Gunners by jumping out of the car and chasing them off in video footage that has since gone viral.
