Review of the Day

Transfers

Qatari Stars League side Al Gharafa have paid an undisclosed fee for Nottingham Forest striker Adlene Guedioura.

Mario Balotelli has found a new club in the shape of home town club Brescia. Balotelli was a free agent after being released by Marseille in the summer.

Injury Round-Up

Heart of Midlothian have lost forward Jamie Walker for around 3 months after a broken leg suffered during a League Cup win over Motherwell. The 26 year old only returned to Hearts in the summer after a spell in English football with Wigan Athletic. Walker's injury is the third they have suffered in the last three games, with John Souttar and Steven Naismith ruled out.

Borja Expecting Swans Stay

Swansea City's Spanish striker Borja Baston is expecting to stay with the Swans despite having spent the last two seasons on loan in Spain. Borja has started the first 3 league games of the season, scoring 3 goals in the process and said: "Two years ago I couldn't show my qualities, now I will. I am happy in Swansea, I am playing, I score goals and I don't have to say any more... I am going to stay. I'm enjoying it a lot and I hope the fans are enjoying it with me. The fans are amazing, I think they are some of the best fans in the Championship." The striker was Swansea's record signing when he arrived in 2016 and is thought to be one of the highest earners at the cash strapped South Wales club.

Meite Latest Player To Suffer Racist Abuse On Social Media

It now seems the scum on social media have a new excuse for their disgusting racist abuse of players, as a missed penalty in a 3-0 win for Reading over Cardiff City has drawn the morons to abuse Yakou Meite. Chelsea's young striker Tammy Abraham also suffered racist abuse when he failed to convert his spot kick in the shoot out at the end of the European Supercup against Liverpool. Meite was brought on in the second half for Reading and missed a penalty in the 91st minute, with Reading already 3-0 up. He posted up a screenshot of the abuse he received with a caption reading: "I don't think I need to speak." Reading also tweeted about the abuse saying: "We won't give oxygen to racist comments sent to this man via social media this afternoon. Instead, we will let a picture tell a thousand words - 'We've got Meite... Yakou Meite...'," They then had a picture of Meite celebrating underneath.

Kenya Appoint Kimanzi

Francis Kimanzi has returned for a third spell in charge of the Kenyan national team after Sebastien Migne left last week. The Kenyan Football Federation said: "Football Kenya Federation has confirmed the appointment of Francis Kimanzi and Zedekiah Otieno to head the Harambee Stars."

Mozambique Also Appoint New Coach

Luis Goncalves has been appointed as the new head coach of Mozambique replacing Victor Matine, who replaced former Everton and Liverpool defender Abel Xavier last month. Matine was fired after Mozambique were eliminated in the 2020 African Nations Championship qualifiers by Madagascar. Goncalves had previously assisted Xavier from January 2016 to May 2018, before moving on to coach China's under-16 national team.

League Winner Sacked

Egypt's most successful club Al Ahly have sacked their head coach Martin Lasarte the day after they were knocked out of the Egypt Cup in the last-16 versus Pyramids. Lasarte had led Al Ahly to victory in the Egyptian Premier League with a match to spare but that was not enough for him to keep his job.

Berlin Fans Stage Protest

Union Berlin supporters staged a 15 minutes long silent protest against the ownership of their opponents RB Leipzig who are a rare exception to German football's rule that requires all Bundesliga clubs to have a 51% fan-ownership model. The protest was no aid to the newly promoted club, who lost to the Red Bull-owned Leipzig by four goals to nil.

Honduran Fans Riot Leaving 3 Dead

Clashes inside and outside the stadium ahead of a derby match between Olimpia and Motagua have left 3 people dead and 10 injured, including 3 Motagua players. Former Celtic left-back Emilio Izaguirre was amongst the injured players after his eye was damaged by glass shards when the Motagua team bus was attacked and stones were thrown smashing the windows. The fixture was postponed as police attempted to break up the violence with tear gas. Motagua are blaming an Olimpia fan club called the Ultra-Faithful Olimpia fan club. Reuters quoted a spokesperson from a local hospital saying: "Three people died and seven were shot and stabbed. One of them is a boy. Three of the injured adults are in critical condition."

Former England Left-Back Coles Retires

Ashley Cole has confirmed a decision to quit playing football at the age of 38 to focus on coaching. The former Arsenal and Chelsea defender was out of contract with Derby County at the end of the season and said: "After hard thinking it was time to hang up my boots and look forward to my next chapter."
