Review of the Day

Contracts

RB Leipzig midfielder Konrad Laimer has extended his deal until 2023.

Alex Roldan has signed a new 1 year deal with Seattle Sounders.

Hannover 96 teenager Simon Stehle has agreed an 18 month long contract.

Transfers

Emre Can has made his loan move from Juventus into a permanent deal with Borussia Dortmund. The overall cost of the package is 26m euros, including loan fee.

Former Celtic and Hibernian defender Efe Ambrose has signed for Livingston on a free.

Former Fiorentina and Los Angeles FC forward Josh Perez is on trial at Dundee United.

Injury Round-Up

Tottenham Hotspur's South Korean forward Son Heung-Min has joined Harry Kane on the sidelines after the attacker suffered a fractured arm in the 3-2 win over Aston Villa on Sunday. Son suffered the injury in the first minute and managed to complete the full 90 minutes, scoring twice, but will now be facing a long lay-off.

Disciplinary Charges

Stevenage are being investigated due to their game against Oldham Athletic being called off in November. Stevenage invoked the rule that allows a postponement if three players are selected for international duty but it has now been alleged that just two players were eligible to be counted. The three players Stevenage said were selected were Afghanistan's Noor Husin, Antigua & Barbuda's Luther James-Wildin and Guyana's Terence Vancooten. Stevenage chairman Phil Wallace said on the club website, as well as revealing the complaint came from Oldham: "Our staff acted in good faith throughout and applied all the relevant rules available to us, making a legitimate postponement application which the EFL accepted and the FA subsequently reinforced by not allowing the player to play in our FA Cup replay. We have a 10-year unblemished record of administration in the EFL and will use the full resources at our disposal to support the decisions and actions of our staff in order to protect the reputation of the club and avoid the imposition of financial penalties." An EFL statement explained: "Following enquiries made by the EFL it is alleged that, at the time of the postponement request, only two players were eligible to be counted towards the total and not three as required by the policy." The game itself took place on 14th January.

West Bromwich Albion striker Charlie Austin has been asked by the Football Association to explain comments he aimed at the fans of his former club Southampton on social media. Austin hit back at criticism from Saints fans on Twitter with his responses that he later deleted.

Naismith Denies Hearts Rift

Scottish international forward Steven Naismith has rubbished reports that there is a rift between the Heart of Midlothian squad and its manager Daniel Stendel. Reports in the tabloids had claimed there were problems with Stendel's communication skills and tactics but Naismith said: "I was surprised. In the winter break it was crystal clear for everybody to understand and the manager's English is pretty good. The bottom line is that it's been individual errors - one player making a mistake or being out of position - that's cost us." He also called the stories "a lot of rubbish".

Wolves Announce Profit

Wolverhampton Wanderers have announced a profit of £21.64m for the 2018/19 season, their first year back in the Premier League. The previous year saw a loss of £55.15m. Turnover increased massively from just £26.4m to £172.46m, though wages nearly doubled from £50.71m to £92.13m. The accounts also revealed a £131m debt owed to their owners Fosun International.
