Managerial Changes

Gerhard Struber has quit Barnsley to take up a position as head coach of New York Red Bulls. The Major League Soccer side have paid the "significant contractual release clause" to get the Austrian, who has only been in charge of the Tykes for 11 months. Struber said: "I am looking forward to getting to know my new team, hopefully very soon. We want to pursue very ambitious goals together and develop steadily. The challenge of working in MLS makes me proud and gives me massive motivation for a big opportunity." The Austrian had ended his playing career with Red Bull Salzburg and then began his coaching career there, leading to Barnsley chief executive Dane Murphy to say: "As much as we wanted Gerhard to remain at Oakwell we were not in a position to deny him this opportunity with a buy-out clause in his contract and his connection within the Red Bull set-up. Looking toward the immediate future, the recruitment process for a replacement has already begun and we will update supporters when appropriate." First-team coach Adam Murray will be in charge of team affairs on an interim basis.

Lennon Happy With Celtic Transfers

Celtic manager Neil Lennon has said he is "delighted" with his Celtic squad following the transfer window. Lennon said: "It's been a very good window for us in terms of bringing players in and keeping the players that we wanted. I woke up this morning absolutely delighted. Delighted with squad of players and certainly with the Laxalt signing. We've come out of the window very strong and we've got great depth. We've kept all our best players and added international quality. We have kept Odsonne Edouard, we have kept Kristoffer Ajer, the Christies and the McGregors [Ryan Christie and Callum McGregor]. All these players are big assets and that's been a difficult thing to do when you consider the financial position a lot of clubs are in."

Kepa Confident Of Winning Back Chelsea Place

The world's most expensive goalkeeper, Chelsea's Spaniard Kepa Arrizabalaga claims he is confident of being able to win back his place in the Chelsea side despite the arrival of Edouard Mendy to replace him in the team. Kepa said: "In the life of a footballer there are ups and downs. But in the end what is in my hands is to work. I feel good, strong, and confident. During your career sometimes you have to live moments like this. I'm confident I can turn it around and do my best when I play. We all want to play. But I don't think about anything beyond day-to-day life and focusing on the national team's matches. In the medium to long term, things can change. I want to play, I want to be on the field and I will work for that."

Ozil Offers To Pay Gunnersaurus Wage

After finding out that the man who plays Arsenal mascot Gunnersaurus, Jerry Quy, was one of the 55 low-paid staff made redundant in a cost-cutting measure to allow the club to go on a spending spree and pay Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang a major pay increase, midfielder Mesut Ozil has offered to pay Quy's wages. Ozil wrote on social media: "I was so sad that Jerry Quy, aka our famous and loyal mascot Gunnersaurus and integral part of our club, was being made redundant after 27 years. As such, I'm offering to reimburse Arsenal with the full salary of our big green guy as long as I will be an Arsenal player so Jerry can continue his job that he loves so much." Ozil already contributes over 50% of his salary to charitable causes.

Leeds Still Facing Legal Case

RB Leipzig are going to continue to pursue legal redress against Leeds United, despite Jean-Kevin Augustin joining Nantes on a free transfer. The 23 year old forward had been on loan at Leeds last season with an obligation to buy if the Whites won promotion. After promotion was achieved Leeds refused to complete the 21m euro signing of Augustin, leaving him in limbo as RBL refused to accept that he was still their player.
