Review of the Day

Contracts

Burnley strike pair Matej Vydra and Jay Rodriguez have extended their contracts with the Clarets until 2022.

Transfers

Free agent former Celtic and Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Beram Kayal has found himself a new club. The 32 year old Israeli has signed for Bnei Sakhnin of the Israeli Ligat ha'Al.

Veteran Spanish right-back Javi Lopez has joined Aussie A-League side Adelaide United.

Also moving to the A-League is former Aston Villa, Cardiff City, Blackburn Rovers striker Rudy Gestede has joined Melbourne Victory.

Injury Round-Up

Managerial Changes

Shrewsbury Town have sacked their manager Sam Ricketts and his assistant Dean Whitehead as just one league win all season has left them 23rd in League One. Ricketts took charge in December 2018 twice keeping the club in the division, but an eight game winless run has ended his time in Shropshire.

Disciplinary Charges

Confederation of African Football (CAF) president Ahmad has announced that he will appeal against the 5 year ban that he was given by FIFA this week. Ahmad, who is also a vice-president of FIFA, was found guilty of a number of ethic breaches by FIFA's Ethics committee. A statement on Ahmad's behalf read: "An appeal will be made before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to challenge this incomprehensible and shocking decision. Furthermore, he will request for the stay of the decision so as not to aggravate the prejudice he is suffering and allow him to campaign for his re-election to the Presidency of Caf."

Taylor To Step Down

Finally some good news as the chief executive of the Professional Footballers' Association, Gordon Taylor, has decided to (finally!) stand down at the end of the season. The ridiculously overpaid Taylor has been in the position since 1981 and has consistently failed the organisation and been asked to stand down by former players on a large number of occasions. Taylor's reign started out well, with the introduction of a pension scheme for members among other things, but in recent years his salary has increased in direct proportion to his inaction and ineffectiveness. In fact, the only thing he has shown himself to be good at is negotiating his exorbitant salary and no doubt he will pick up a nice big 'golden handshake'.

R.I.P. Diego Maradona

Arguably (probably?) the greatest player to have played the game has died at the age of 60. Diego Armando Maradona dragged a very average Argentina team to two World Cup wins and also did a similar thing with Napoli in his club career. Sadly drug and alcohol dependency badly affected him throughout his life and leaves you to ask the question - just how good could he have been? A flawed man and footballing genius who was probably the closest things to a one-man team there will ever be. Rest in peace.
