Review of the Day

Contracts

Valencia teenager Yunus Musah has signed a contract which runs until 2026.

Ipswich Town midfielder Andre Dozzell, the son of former Tractor Boys player Jason, has been given a new deal which runs until 2024.

Transfers

Oxford United winger Joel Cooper is returning to the Irish Premiership on a short-term loan. Oxford's head coach Karl Robinson explains in an interview with BBC radio: "Joel's got two issues back home at the moment and finding it very difficult to be over here. He spoke to me on the phone and wants to go back to Ireland until the summer. The situations that have arisen won't be an overnight thing that we'll be able to click our fingers and make better. He will go on loan back there until the summer, while the situation hopefully starts to be solved. Hopefully he'll be in a better place for it when he comes back."

Injury Round-Up

Cambridge United midfielder Hiram Boateng has been ruled out for several weeks after dislocating his shoulder.

Also out with a dislocated shoulder is Luke O'Nien, the Sunderland wing-back.

Nine Dundee United players are self-isolating and will be unable to take part in their Scottish Premiership game against Livingston. Those players and the entire coaching staff have had to go into isolation after three staff tested positive and they were deemed close contacts.

Southampton's England striker Danny Ings has returned to training. The 28 year old has been out for a month with a knee injury.

Managerial Changes

Sunderland have appointed Kristjaan Speakman as their new sporting director. Speakman was previously the academy manager at Birmingham City.

OGC Nice have sacked former Arsenal midfielder Patrick Vieira. Vieira, who had been in charge of Major League Soccer club New York City FC before Nice, had been in charge for over 5 years, but five defeats in a row was enough to see him shown the door. His assistant Adrian Ursea has taken over.

Disciplinary Charges

Portsmouth and Oxford United have been fined £2,500 each for failing to control their players after a League One match at Fratton Park in November. The players and coaches from both sides had to be separated after the final whistle of their 1-1 draw.

Perry Ng, the captain of Crewe Alexandra, has been banned for 6 games for spitting water at Cheltenham Town coach Wade Elliott after Crewe lost to Cheltenham in the FA Cup.

Juventus's sporting director Fabio Paratici is being investigated. Prosecutors allege he attempted to "speed up" Luis Suarez's bid for Italian citizenship so that Juve could sign the Uruguayan striker. It is believed that Suarez was given the test contents in advance and that the score he would get was predetermined anyway. The four university officials who administered the test are also facing suspension.

Napoli Rename Their Stadium After Maradona

Napoli have renamed their Stadio San Paolo as Stadio Diego Armando Maradona in honour of the club legend who died last month. Maradona was in large part responsible for Napoli's most successful period between 1984 and 1991, when he led the club to two Serie A titles, a Coppa Italia and a UEFA Cup.

Wigan Takeover Blocked

Struggling League One side Wigan Athletic have seen their prospective takeover by a Spanish consortium blocked by the English Football League as the new owners "failed to satisfy the league's requirements". Wigan, currently bottom of the table, are manager-less and in administration and have been in talks with a number of parties about a takeover. This particular consortium had been given a second extension to try and get the purchase completed but the EFL were unhappy with what they saw having "undertaken significant due diligence on the relevant parties".
