Contracts

Transfers

Los Angeles FC have signed young left-back Marco Farfan from Portland Timbers.

Ahead of their first season in Major League Soccer, Austin FC have made a quadruple signing. Nick Lima has arrived from San Jose Earthquakes, Ulises Segura from DC United, Jon Gallagher from Atlanta United and Ben Sweat from Inter Miami.

Former Liverpool and AC Milan forward Fabio Borini has signed for Turkish Super Lig side Fatih Karagumruk.

Injury Round-Up

Stoke City striker Tyrese Campbell is unlikely to play again this season after suffering a serious knee injury.

Liverpool will be without summer signing from Wolverhampton Wanderers, Diogo Jota, for 6 weeks due to a knee injury.

Stevenage's next two fixtures, against Tranmere Rovers and Exeter City in League Two, have been postponed due to a positive test requiring all players and staff to self-isolate for 10 days.

Despite going off on a stretcher screaming and crying, PSG star Neymar has nothing more serious than a twisted ankle. How embarrassing. Though even this minor injury is expected to keep him out of action for a month! A more serious injury to a Paris Saint Germain player is Abdou Diallo's hamstring injury which has ruled him out until the New Year.

Schalke 04 forward Mark Uth has been released from hospital after spending the night in observation following a clash of heads with Augsburg's Felix Udoukhai. Uth lost consciousness briefly after the collision and was taken to hospital to be checked out.

Bayern Munich have received an injury boost as Joshua Kimmich has returned to training. Javi Martinez and Leon Goretzka are both expected to be fit to play at the weekend as well.

Villareal have lost midfielder Vicente Iborra for the rest of the season due to torn knee ligaments.

Managerial Changes

Barnet manager Peter Beadle has been sacked after the team went nine games without a win.

After a run of six defeats on the bounce, Bradford City have sacked manager Stuart McCall and his assistant Kenny Black. Bradford are 22nd in League Two.

Former Blackburn Rovers midfielder David Dunn has been sacked by Barrow. Dunn had been managing the League Two side since July but had won just two matches in the 22 he was in charge of.

Borussia Dortmund have sacked Lucien Favre after the 5-1 thrashing to promoted VfB Stuttgart on Saturday. Under Favre Dortmund topped their Champions League group to reach the last 16 but sitting 5th in the Bundesliga after 3 defeats in the last 5 league games was enough to see him ousted.

Disciplinary Charges

Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater has been sent off for lashing out at a teenage opponent during an Under-23s match against Tottenham Hotspur. 16 year old Alfie Devine slid in with a meaty challenge, which saw Drinkwater kick his legs out from under him in retaliation. Devine also saw red.

AS Roma's Bryan Cristante has been slapped with a 1 match ban for blasphemy.

Fireworks Stop Play

The Dutch Eredivisie match between FC Emmen and ADO Den Haag had to be suspended for 17 minutes after supporters set off fireworks out the stadium. Smoke from the pyrotechnics billowed onto the pitch, causing the stoppage due to poor visibility. Fans are still banned from matches in the Netherlands due to the pandemic.

London Teams Lose Fans

London club's will no longer have the backing of home fans after the capital was placed into Tier 3 of the UK's coronavirus restrictions. They had been allowed up to 2,000 through the doors but a rise in infections has changed that. Right now that leaves just Liverpool, Everton, Brighton & Hove Albion and Southampton that are able to have fans in their ground.

R.I.P. Ged

Former France, Paris Saint-Germain, Olympique Lyonnais and Aston Villa manager Gerard Houllier has pased away at the age of 73. Houllier is best remembered for his time as Liverpool manager which, after a rocky start as joint manager with Roy Evans, led to five trophies in 6 years in charge, despite time out with heart problems. A genuinely nice man who loved football, he has been responsible for instilling a professional approach to the entire French set-up, Liverpool and the Red Bull group, where he was head of football.

Davies Hits Out At Racist Comments

Canada's young superstar Alphonso Davies has hit out at those sending him and his girlfriend racist comments on Instagram. The Bayern Munich left-back is dating Canadian women's international Jordyn Huitema and she shared a picture of the two of them relaxing on holiday in Ibiza recently, only for the comments and both her and Davies' direct messages to then get flooded with racist abuse. Davies has shared some of the messages he received saying: "These are the type of comments that are being put under my girlfriend's pictures, also in her DMs and mine. This is absolutely disgusting. #notoracism". Huitema added on her social media: "We will never see the good in the world if all we see is the colour of each other's skin. We are all part of one race, the human race."

Arteta Gets Backing

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has backed his former assistant Mikel Arteta as Arsenal boss, despite the loss on Sunday leading to Arsenal being booed off. The Gunners, currently sat in 15th place in the Premier League, had not lost four league games in a row since 1959, until the defeat to Burnley. Even Unai Emery was unable to be quite that bad as a manager, but Pep has given Arteta his backing: "He is one of the best managers I've ever worked with and seen directly. I don't have to publicly give my support because he knows he has it. Sometimes a club needs time when it comes from a period where it is not so good. I don't have any doubts about his quality and capacity to put Arsenal in the place Arsenal deserves to be. There is no-one better to lead the club this year and in the next ones." Maybe Pep thinks the Gunners deserve to be in the Championship? It is not just Pep that is behind Arteta, as Arsenal technical director Edu said: "Mikel is doing a great job. It's normal and easy to be driven by results. But I can see the future, see where we go and the way we are building things on a daily basis. Everything here is right, everything here is working. How many young players have started to get opportunities and perform quite well in the first team? I can see a big and beautiful future. It's very strange to say that in this moment, but I have to be fair - that's the way I see the photo." I just wonder what it will look like when everything is not working?!?
