Injury Round-Up

Shrewsbury Town manager Steve Cotterill is finally out of hospital after over a month of being treated for the corona virus. The 56 year old was initially rushed into intensive care on 15th January.

The bottom placed side in the SPFL, Ross County, have been hit by bad news over two of their full-backs. Tom Grivosti, who had not played since November, has now been ruled out for the rest of the season after an operation on his hamstring. Connor Randall will also play no further part in the season with a back problem.

Bayern Munich full-back Benjamin Pavard has tested positive for CV according to Sky Sports.

Managerial Changes

AFC Wimbledon have promoted first-team coach Mark Robinson to the head coach role.

Six defeats in a row has seen Bristol City sack Dean Holden. Paul Simpson and Keith Downing will take temporary charge of the team, which has slipped down to 13th place in the Championship table.

Disciplinary Charges

Both Newport County and Grimsby Town have been punished with a £1,000 fine for failing to control their players during their League Two fixture earlier this month.

Livingston's appeal against a red card for Jack Fitzwater has been rejected.

Dundee United also appealed against a red card in that game for Peter Pawlett and that appeal was also turned down.

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has hit out at five of his players who breached lockdown regulations in Scotland. Gerrard confirmed that the five, Bongani Zungu, Nathan Patterson, Calvin Bassey, Dapo Mebude and Brian Kinnear are now self-isolating after being caught holding a party to watch the boxing together. Mebude is actually on loan at Queen of the South.

In Switzerland, prosecutors have appealed against the acquittal of PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi on charges of aggravated criminal mismanagement regarding the allocation of World Cup TV rights in his role as chairman of the beIN Media group. The prosecutors are also seeking to overturn the acquittal of his two co-defendants, former FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke and Greek businessman Dinos Deris.

Ref Apologises For Locked Heads

In a bizarre incident in League One, referee Darren Drysdale squared up to Ipswich Town's Irish midfielder Alan Judge during the 0-0 game with Northampton Town. Drysdale also put his head right into Judge's face before booking him for simulation as other players tried to pull him away. The official has since apologised saying: "I can only apologise to Alan and Ipswich Town. I fully understand it is important for us as referees to maintain our composure throughout the game and always engage with players in a professional manner. I'm sorry that I did not do that."

Pep Warns About The Dangers Of International Breaks

Manchester City's Spanish head coach Pep Guardiola has warned that the Premier League should fear a rise in positive tests for CV due to the international break next month. Guardiola said: "The Premier League should be concerned about this. The only way to be protected from this virus is to stay at home and social distance. No contact, don't travel, don't move. Now the players are going to their national teams and it is difficult afterwards to control it. So, unfortunately, something is going to rise. I would love to say it is not going to happen but from experience, it happened in two or three waves already. If you move, you take a risk to be contaminated."

Rashford Makes The List

In a time when Marcus Rashford has come to the fore, not so much for his time on the pitch with Manchester United and England, but for what he does off the pitch, the 23-year-old has received another accolade. Rashford has led the fight to keep free school meals for children at English schools during the school holidays, as well as personally delivering food parcels on a regular basis. Rashford has recently been made an MBE and now he has made Time magazine's Next 100 list.

Mbappe In Alba Threat?

Pitch-side microphones at the Barcelona versus Paris Saint-Germain Champions League clash picked up PSG's Kylian Mbappe telling Jordi Alba, "In the street, I will kill you". It is unclear whether Mbappe meant the message as a genuine threat or whether he just meant in street football he would destroy the defender if he was in front of him.

Bundesliga Chief Hits Out At Spanish Clubs

Bundesliga CEO Christian Seifert has heavily criticised Spanish clubs while speaking at the Business of Football event held by the Financial Times. Seifert hit out at those clubs driving the move towards a European 'super' league, calling some of them "poorly managed, cash-burning machines". He then went on to suggest that he would think twice about getting involved in the venture as an investor, saying: "If I was an investor, I'd ask if they're the right partners. In the end they will burn this money, like that they burned in the last few years. They should think about developing a sustainable business model, salary caps."

Youth League Scrapped

UEFA have scrapped the UEFA Youth League for this season altogether. The competition has been repeatedly pushed back from a September start date to end up being scheduled for a March beginning as a knockout cup competition. With the pandemic ongoing, it has now been decided to scrap it completely for the year after two clubs withdrew due to travel restrictions.
