Injury Round-Up

Barrow midfielder Lewis Hardcastle has retired from playing at the age of just 22 after being diagnosed with a heart condition. Hardcastle said on social media: "My doctor broke the news no young athlete wants to hear, I love football but my life means more. The doctor told that me that my case was so severe that I needed an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) implanted into my heart to save my life. Sadly there was nothing I could have done to avoid the progression of my condition, I just feel that I have been unlucky."

Newcastle United midfielder Isaac Hayden's knee injury has ruled him out of the rest of the season. The freak injury resulted as Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Yves Bissouma fell over backwards and tumbled into the unlucky former Arsenal youngster. There was some good news, as Hayden does not need surgery on the injury.

Germany midfielder Jonas Hofmann has gone into isolation after the Borussia Moenchengladbach midfielder tested cv positive while away with the national team.

Managerial Changes

Crewe Alexandra chairman John Bowler has finally agreed to resign after pressure mounted on him due to the publication of the Sheldon report. Bowler was at the club during the period now-convicted sex offender Barry Bennell was working at Crewe as a youth coach and abusing his charge. Crewe's lack of care for the boys in its care has been heavily criticised in the report, which mentioned that a previous chairman was even given a warning by a senior police officer to keep a "watching brief" on Bennell. Despite concerns being discussed between directors, Crewe failed to take any action to protect the children in its youth system.

Brazil's first division have introduced a new rule limiting coaching changes to one per season. Coaches are also limited to managing just two clubs per season. If a club does decide it needs to sack a second coach, then the replacement must have worked for the club in question for at least six months. Coaches that resign can be replaced any number of times. Brazilian federation president Rogerio Caboclo said: "This is a big step forward for Brazilian football, which helps both the clubs but also the coaches. It will be the end of the merry-go-round in Brazilian football."

Disciplinary Charges

Timothee Dieng has been banned for two games for simulation. The Southend United midfielder was found guilty of getting an opponent sent off by misleading the referee in the 78th minute of a 1-1 draw at Scunthorpe United. Jordan Clarke was the player who was shown a red card in the incident.

To add insult to injury, just a few days after being sacked as manager of Preston North End, Alex Neil has been fined £2,000 for improper conduct during a game at Middlesbrough.

Aberdeen midfielder Lewis Ferguson has had his yellow card for diving rescinded. Referee Greg Aitken thought Ferguson had dived when he went to ground during a challenge by Dundee United's Calum Butcher.

FIFA have decided not to punish Norway's players for their protest against the hosting of the forthcoming World Cup in Qatar, following the release of a report that 6,500 migrant workers have died in Qatar since the World Cup was awarded in 2010. Norway's players wore T-shirts reading 'Human rights on and off the pitch' before their qualifier against Gibraltar, in support of the migrant workers in Qatar. Norwegian top-flight side Tromso has requested that the Norwegian FA boycott the World Cup if they qualify and have been joined in the call by a number of other of Norway's top professional clubs.

New Season Start Dates

Next season's Scottish Professional Football League will begin on 31st July and the season once more feature a winter break for the Premiership. The top flight will take their break from 3rd January until 21st January.

In England the new Premier League season will begin on 14th August and the season will not be condensed like it has been this season. The season is to end on 22nd May 2022.

Lazio Youngster Killed In Crash

Lazio are in shock after the death of 19 year old youth team midfielder Daniel Guerini in a car crash on Wednesday night. Guerini had previously played at youth level for Torino, Fiorentina and SPAL, before joining the Rome side, and had represented his country at both under-15 and under-16 level.

Euros To Allow Fans In

Denmark have revealed that they are going to allow "at least 11,000 to 12,000" fans to attend the European Championship matches the country is set to host in the summer. The Danes are due to host four games at the 38,000 capacity Parken Stadium in Copenhagen. Russia have said they have an agreement to fill the stands at the Saint Petersburg Stadium to 50% for the four games that are being played there. The stadium has a 68,000 seat capacity. England are hoping to be able to have 10,000 attendees at least for the games they host.
