Contracts

Former Chelsea and Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has signed a new 5-year contract at Real Madrid.

Transfers

Crewe Alexandra defender Tommie Hoban has decided to retire just a month after signing for the League One side from Aberdeen.

Kwesi Appiah has signed for Crawley Town on a free transfer from Indian Super League side North East United.

Carlisle United have taken Brad Young on loan for the season from Aston Villa.

Dennis Politic has signed for Port Vale on a season-long loan deal from Bolton Wanderers.

Manchester City winger Ben Knight has signed for Crewe on loan for the season.

Ipswich Town have signed Tom Carroll on a free transfer from Queens Park Rangers. Also signing for the Tractor Boys is defender Cameron Burgess from Accrington Stanley for an undisclosed fee.

Everton have sent striker Nathan Broadhead to Sunderland on loan for the season.

Liverpool midfielder Leighton Clarkson has joined the team he supports, Blackburn Rovers, on loan for the season. Also leaving Liverpool on loan is defender Ben Davies, who has joined Sheffield United.

Bayer Leverkusen have paid £5.85m to sign Robert Andrich from Union Berlin and a further £5.72m to sign teenage defender Piero Hincapie from CA Talleres.

Luismi has signed for Real Oviedo on a free transfer from Elche.

Espanyol have signed Manu Morlanes on loan from Villareal.

Greuther Furth have paid £675,000 for the signing of Jeremy Dudziak from Hamburg.

Genoa have paid a £450,000 loan fee for Johan Vasquez from UNAM Pumas.

Manchester United full-back Ethan Laird has signed for Swansea City on loan.

Former Manchester United right-back Rafael has been released by Baseksehir.

Cadiz have loaned Alvaro Gimenez to Real Zaragoza.

Omonia Nikosia have signed Fouad Bachirou on a free transfer from Nottingham Forest.

SPAL have taken Alessandro Tripaldelli on loan from Cagliari.

Werder Bremen have sold Ludwig Augustinsson to Sevilla for £4.95m.

Former Chelsea striker Diego Costa has signed for Atletico Mineiro.

Injury Round-Up

Hibernian striker Christian Doidge has suffered an Achilles injury which rules him out until December.

Surprisingly, after collapsing on the pitch during a 2-2 draw between Olympique Marseille and Girondins Bordeaux, Bordeaux striker Samuel Kalu was allowed to play on after treatment. The 23-year-old Nigerian had to be substituted minutes later and walked off holding an ice pack to his head.

Managerial Changes

Hartlepool United will be searching for a new assistant manager after former Everton midfielder Joe Parkinson left the role for personal reasons. Manager Dave Challinor revealed: "Joe has unfortunately left the club but goes with everyone's best wishes and on very good terms. The past 18 months has been really tough for everyone but with the travelling, being away from family, Covid-19, huge stress of a promotion campaign and some medical issues that Joe is currently dealing with, he felt the need to have to step away."

Disciplinary Charges

Peterborough United striker Jonson Clarke-Harris has been charged by the FA for some online posts the 27-year-old made when he was 18.

Marvin Bartley 2-match suspension is still to be served after the Scottish FA ruled that his presence on the touchline stopped him from serving his suspension. The 35-year-old had a two game ban carried over from last season and was on the sidelines in his role as assistant manager, rather than player, but the SFA have decided that breaches disciplinary rule 208.

Barca Reveal Monster Debt

Barcelona's president Joan Laporta has revealed the Catalans have a debt of around £1.15bn, with a wage bill that is currently 103% of total income. Pointing the finger of blame squarely at his predecessor as president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, Laporta said: "Our salaries represent 103% of the club's total income, that's 20-25% more than our competitors. The first thing we had to do when we arrived was to ask for a loan of 80m euros because, otherwise, we could not pay the salaries. The previous regime was full of lies. Barcelona has a negative net worth of 451m euros - it is a terrible inheritance. What has been happening is very worrying."
