Teenage Fiorentina left-back Michael Kayode has agreed to stay with the Viola until 2025.

Transfers

Newcastle United have not given up their pursuit of James Maddison and have returned with a second bid for the Leicester City midfielder. Leicester's head coach Brendan Rodgers has admitted the club have to balance their books this season and will have to sell to buy.

OGC Nice have picked up Aaron Ramsey on a free transfer after he cleaned out Juventus's bank account to leave them, following years of sitting on the injury table in Turin. Leaving Nice on a free transfer is Ihsan Sacko to sign for US Avranches. Also joining Nice's midfielder is young midfielder Alexis Beka Beka for £10.8m from Lokomotiv Moscow.

Veteran former Arsenal, Chelsea and Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas has signed for Como in Serie B on a free transfer from AS Monaco. Bizzarely their chief executive is Dennis Wise, of all people.

Newly promoted Premier League side Bournemouth have paid an undisclosed fee of £10.71m to Middlesbrough for midfielder Marcus Tavernier.

Joe Rodon has joined Stade Rennais on loan with a view to a permanent move from Tottenham Hotspur.

Nottingham Forest have made their 12th signing of the summer by signing Orel Mangala from VfB Stuttgart for £11.7m.

Blackburn Rovers have signed Tyler Morton on a season-long loan deal from Liverpool and paid an undisclosed fee to Peterborough United to get Sammie Szmodics.

Arsenal youngster Mazeed Ogungbo has signed for Crawley Town on loan for the season.

Olympique Marseille have released Spanish defender Alvaro Gonzalez.

Injury Round Up

Morocco will be without forward Tarik Tissoudali for the World Cup after the 29-year-old ruptured the ACL in his right knee while playing for his club side Gent. He is expected to be out for at least 6 months.

Rangers' former Liverpool winger Ryan Kent will miss the first leg of the Scottish club's Champions League qualifier against Union Saint-Gilloise. Kent has a knock and did not travel out with the squad to Belgium.

Job Changes

Manchester United have appointed Kevin Keij as their new first-team performance analyst. Unsurprisingly he arrives from Ajax, as that seems to be the recruitment policy for this summer, to bring in anyone and everyone who has ever worked for the Amsterdam club before!

Surprisingly former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tom Huddlestone is in talks over the role of player-coach for the Manchester United U-23s after Paul McShane stepped aside into a Professional Development Phase coaching role full-time. The role involves providing an experienced head in the under-23 games as well as coaching them when not playing. McShane hung up his boots at the end of last season, leaving a void for an experienced head to help the youth players through matches at that level. I wonder what link he has to Ajax?

Liverpool club doctor Jim Moxon has left the role to pursue other challenges. The club have brought in Belgian Frigyes Vanden Auweele as the head of osteopathy. Osteopathy being the means of detecting, treating and preventing health problems by moving, stretching and massaging muscles and joints.

Newcastle United are set to appoint Michael Carrick's younger brother Graeme as their new Under-18s coach.

Rangers have confirmed the appointment of George Taylor as a director of the club on Companies House.

Disciplinary Charges

Wolverhampton Wanderers have registered their disappointment after their South Korean forward Hwang Hee-chan suffered "discriminatory abuse" from SC Farense fans during a pre-season friendly. Hwang was about to take a penalty when he spotted some of the Farense supporters making racist gestures. A Wolves statement read: "We are very disappointed to report that one of our players was the target of discriminatory abuse from opposition fans during this evening's game with SC Farense. We will be reporting the incident to Uefa and asking our opponent and relevant authorities to investigate. We are offering our full support to the player involved. Racism in any form is completely unacceptable and should never be left unchallenged." Hwang posted his own response on his social media: "Thank you all for your supporting messages. Many thanks to my club, staff, colleagues and all my fans. We are all the same human beings. We all need to have a mature attitude on enjoying sports. I really hope today could be the last day of people's suffering from racism. Not only in sport, but everywhere. No to racism."

Cardiff City's majority owner Vincent Tan has won a High Court case against a former director of the Welsh club, despite the judge decided that Tan's actions were partly motivated by a personal animosity towards Michael Isaac. Tan had concluded a deal which saw his personal shareholding rise to 98.3% of the club from 94.2%, while decreasing Isaac's holdings from 3.97% to 1.18% as he used an equity swap to fufil a pledge he made on club debts. The Malaysian billionaire took on shares in return for wiping out debt owed by the club to himself, but the judge believed that his actions were only in part motivated by a desire to fulfil the pledge and that his behaviour was "unpleasant". While the judge found Tan's actions, while "motivated by a personal feeling of vindictiveness against Mr Isaac" were not "unlawful or unconscionable".

AFCON Qualifiers Postponed

The qualifiers for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, that were due to be played in September, have been postponed to allow Africa's World Cup qualifiers to prepare for the tournament. The games, which are the third and fourth round of qualifiers, have been moved to March 2023. Tunisia, Senegal, Morocco, Ghana and Cameroon are Africa's five entrants into this year's World Cup and all had been keen to arrange games against teams from other continents to help prepare them for what they will face in Qatar.

Barca Sell Off More Family Silver

Barcelona has 'activated their third financial lever' with the sale of 24.5% of Barca Studios to Chiliz.com. Chiliz.com are a blockchain technology provider and owner of Socios.com. The sell-off has raised a further 100m euros as they look to raise the funds to enable them to register all their new signings. The club still has plans to sell off another 24.5% in order to fund even more summer signings, though they are looking for a deal with a company in the audiovisual sector, to enable them to leverage their expertise. With the potential sale of Frenkie de Jong, the money could enable them to buy as many as 3 more players. Barca president Joan Laporta said: "We are doing everything they are asking in order to register them. I am assuming that they will not put any obstacles in our way. I hope that La Liga make the same interpretation as we do. If not, we will find a solution. We have sold 25% of the television rights for Barcelona. And the sale of €100m for 25% of Barca Studios to Socios.com. We are doing our homework in order to register the players." He also told CBS Sports: "We had to get out of hospital. A year ago, it was practically Chapter 11. We had to work very hard to revert the financials and avoid bankruptcy. I can say with pride that we did it. One year later, we are in positive equity. That's very important. This season, we have €1 billion in revenues and €124 million in profits. That means we are getting better and better. And now we have sold the 25% of our LaLiga TV rights for 25 years. Honestly, I didn't want to do it, but I had to do it in order to save the club. I would like to thank Sixth Street because we reached a very good deal for both parties. We had higher offers but this was the right one for us. And we have enough now, under Financial Fair Play, to buy players again. It has been very hard. But my expertise is in managing chaos. It also happened in my first period as president and I succeeded and we had the most successful period of the club. We had some luck but part of that was because we took care of all the little details. Now in this second period, it has been more stressful but we have a strategy. The plan is 'work, work and work' and thanks to all the people around me, the board of directors, my staff and employees, everyone has helped to save the football club. We are excited by the strategic partnership with Spotify. Two global brands are able to engage, who are both leaders, and we are sharing philosophy and values. Also, this has never been seen before - a partnership that unites football and music, sports and entertainment. It has huge potential. When I arrived one year ago, Barça were in a very difficult situation. But thanks to the work that all of us are doing, now we are out of the hospital. Now we are healthy again and are ready to compete."
