Carlos Mandes Gomes has signed for Fleetwood Town on loan for the season from Luton Town.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have obviously listened to our summer podcasts and taken the advice given out on there as they have signed Matheus Nunes for £40.5m from Sporting Clube de Portugal. Napoli have given medicals to two potential loan with a view to buy signings. Tottenham Hotspur's Tanguy Ndombele and Sassuolo's Giacomo Raspadori have both undergone tests ahead of the move.

Real Betis are still waiting to register their free signing from Lazio, Luiz Felipe. Similar to Barcelona, Betis are struggling against La Liga's wage bill restrictions and the Brazilian centre-back has been left in limbo since agreeing the move.

Injury Round Up

Sevilla's Mexican international Jesus 'Tecatito' Corona is set to miss out on the World Cup after picking up a serious injury in training. The 29-year-old broke his fibula and ruptured ankle ligaments, meaning a spell of four to five months on the sidelines.

Sassuolo's Turkish international defender Mert Muldur has undergone surgery to repair the ankle he fractured against Juventus. Muldur had a fractured medial malleolus in his right ankle and is likely to be out for several months.

Job Changes

MLS side San Jose Earthquakes have appointed Luchi Gonzalez as their new head coach. Gonzalez is currently working as an assistant coach with the USA national team and will join up with the Quakes after the World Cup in Qatar.

Valencia's majority owner Peter Lim has reappointed his financial advisor as club president. Layhoon Chan is a Singaporean financial advisor who oversees Peter Lim's investments and was previously an extremely unpopular club president between 2015 and 2017, before being driven out by fan protests. Joey Lim is also stepping down as executive director to be replaced by Pang Liang Ong, who is a merchant banker (that is not necessarily rhyming slang). Sean Bai and Teo Swee Wei were also removed from their positions on the board, with Bai another of the executive directors and in charge of the club's transfers. As usual Peter Lim is acting like a knob who just seems to want to annoy everyone by making changes for a laugh. Oh and his son Wee Kiat Lim has been appointed to the board as well.

Disciplinary Charges

Cristiano Ronaldo has been cautioned by Merseyside Police over the incident last season after Manchester United had played Everton. On the way off the pitch the Portugese star knocked a phone out of a young fan's hand, with the clip widely circulating on social media, while the child's mother made all sorts of claims about the damage done. The police have now confirmed that the incident has been "concluded". He will now face a separate inquiry from the FA.

Crystal Palace defender Joachim Andersen has reported hundreds of abusive messages he received on social media after he was headbutted by Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez, which saw the forward get sent off. Andersen posted a number of examples, which included death threats on his Instagram feed. I really do not understand why morons think this is a good idea.

Djibouti international striker Sabri Ali Mohamed has been banned from football for 4 years following a positive dope test. The 21-year-old plays for FC Dikhil at club level but was handed the FIFA ban after testing positive for "exogenously administered testosterone" after playing for his country against Algeria in November last year. The player admitted taking steroid injections to strengthen his body and said he was not aware of doping rules.

Another international forward to be hit with a four-year ban is El Salvador's Erick Alejandro Rivera, who tested positive for the steroid clostebol after his country lost to Canada in September 2021. The 32-year-old striker has been without a club since being released by Santa Tecla in January.

Bolton Wanderers head coach Ian Evatt has been given a 1-match touchline ban and fine of £1,000 for "using abusive, insulting and improper language".

The president of the Danish Players Association, Michael Sahl Hansen, has accused Barcelona of harrassing Martin Braithwaite: "The treatment that Braithwaite is experiencing is completely unreasonable. Something that falls somewhere between intimidation and harassment. It's shameful how Barcelona is trying to get him out of his contract. Barcelona want to kick out a player that came to rescue them. Where is their decency? Unfortunately, we can't do anything to help Martin because Barça have not broken any rule. A contract is a contract and FC Barcelona and Martin committed themselves for two more years. Martin must continue to fulfill his part of the agreement. And so must FC Barcelona. And besides, it would correspond to one of the biggest clubs in the world treat their players with greater respect." Former Netherlands international Rafael van der Vaart likened Barca's recent behaviour to that of the Mafia. At the very least it is distasteful the way they are trying to force players out or to take large pay cuts so they can spend large sums on new players. It amazes me anyone would choose to join such a club any more when they act like this. It is not like the players they are signing do not have other options, so why choose scumbags like Barca, who will try any means to get out of a legally agreed contract with you the moment it suits them?

La Liga's legal challenge to Kylian Mbappe's new Paris Saint-Germain has been thrown out by the Adminstrative Court of Paris. La Liga claimed breaches of Financial Fair Play and other contract regulations but the court found no proof of any rulebreaking existed and declined the request to have Mbappe's contract terminated.

I am not sure why it has taken so long to come to this decision but the FA have charged Manchester City over their final day pitch invasion from last season when Aston Villa keeper Robin Olsen was attacked. Two people have already been charged by police in May, yet the FA are only now putting in charges. Unreal. Chocolate watches are more use and work quicker.

Chelsea are investigating reports that Tottenham Hotspur forward Son Heung-Min was racially abused at Stamford Bridge.

Pointless List Of The Day

The Golden Boy award 'short'list has been cut from a gargantuan 80 youngsters to a mammoth 60 as someone at Tuttosport fails to understand what a shortlist actually is. Just to be confusing, they decided to remove 30 and add 10 others in as nominees instead. As you do. The list is to be cut down by 20 players each month until it reaches just 20 in October, though whether that list will have any of these players on it is anyone's guess. The way Tuttosport are running it, I would not want to bet against it being 20 of the 30 they just removed in the final version!

Unfortunately the player who probably most deserves the award, Gvardiol, has absolutely zero chance of winning it, as defenders never win these popularity contests.
