Review Of The Day 17th February 2023

Review of the Day

Contracts

Sam Long has signed a new deal with Oxford United which will expire in 2026.

Former Arsenal youngster Luke Ayling has extended his Leeds United contract by a year to take in next season.

Teenage Leicester City midfielder Sammy Braybrooke has extended his deal until 2026.

Brentford's Danish full-back Mads Roerslev has a new contract which expires in 2026.

Transfers

Crystal Palace have paid an undisclosed fee "with significant add-ons and a potential sell-on" for St Mirren teenager Dylan Reid.

Accrington Stanley goalkeeper Toby Savin has signed for Stevenage on a 7-day emergency loan.

Veteran attacker Leon Clarke has signed for Hartlepool United.

Former Liverpool winger Lazar Markovic has moved to Trabzonspor on loan from Gazientep.

Injury Round Up

Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte is not returning to work until he has made an "entire recovery" from gallbladder surgery. Conte wrote on social media: "Sadly, I underestimated the procedure, which wasn't a routine operation, but a sudden and serious emergency. My body has suffered my impatience, and now I am forced to stop until my entire recovery. Who knows me, understands what a burden this is for me, but it is necessary."

Job Changes

Jon Harley has left his role as Chelsea Academy Manager to become Portsmouth's assistant head coach. Harley played left-back for Pompey in season 2012-13, towards the end of his career.

Peter Storrie has joined Charlton Athletic as their CEO on a consultancy basis. Storrie was CEO at Portsmouth when they entered administration in 2010. Leaving the club are COO Jim Rodwell, Technical Director Andy Scott and Finance Director Ed Warrick, who had all joined as part of a takeover bid by Charlie Methven, which has since fallen through.

Sam Jewell, the son of former Wigan Athletic manager Paul Jewell, has been appointed as Brighton & Hove Albion's Head of Recruitment on a permanent basis. Jewell had been installed on a temporary basis to replace Paul Winstanley following Winstanley's decision to join Chelsea.

Disciplinary Charges

The Football Association and Arsenal are investigating to try and identify the fans who threw objects at Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne after he was substituted during City's 3-1 win at Arsenal. De Bruyne was walking around the pitch after the substitution took place and found himself the target of objects.

Both Liverpool and Everton have been charged with failing to ensure their players "conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and/or refrained from provocative behaviour" during Liverpool's 2-0 win in Monday evening's Merseyside derby. The incident happened late on after Tyranasaurus Rex impressionist Jordan Pickford raced out of his goal to confront wind-up merchant Andy Robertson, leading to a mass confrontation. No doubt fueled by Pickford's ineptitude as he made a series of blunders, once again, in the derby to cost the Blues badly.

Birmingham City have said they are "appalled and saddened" after club captain Troy Deeney was racially abused by a fan in the home section of their St Andrew's ground. A Blues statement read: "Blues gives its full support to Troy and is appalled and saddened that yet again, one of our players is not safe from discrimination on the football pitch. This incident has been referred to the relevant authorities and the club will assist in their investigation." Last month Birmingham goalkeeper Neil Etheridge reported being racially abused by Blackburn Rovers' fans during an FA Cup tie between the sides.
