Everton Football Club Overview

Evening Gents,

Firstly, a special mention to GB, I think Chalkie already touched on it after the match, but you have been a beacon of positivity for all of us on here of late. Although I was confident of us staying up since Sean Dyche came in as Everton manager, there was still a sickening worry due to losing DCL Patterson at Molineux. Your unwavering faith was commendable, mate.

I imagine we all shared similar feelings after that final whistle on Sunday. The sheer relief of survival, coupled with a searing anger at the reality of our situation, where we stand in the league, who has put us there, and knowing that it cannot happen again!

There have naturally been a couple of posts (myself included) after the game about summer incomings; after all, it is the quickest remedy to the issue. But it only dawned on me today that the glaringly obvious holes we all see in this squad can only be addressed when the people who put them there in the first place have left this club. Barring the stadium, I can't recall many smart decisions being made for this football club, on or off the pitch.

I think we can agree that it will take consistently smart and clever recruitment to fix this team. That is something we haven't shown for the past 7-8 years, so why would they start now? If we take a look at their track record, some of the decisions they have made, and some of the business that they have signed off on, is absolutely frightening.

They showed pure unadulterated negligence by not signing a striker in the summer window. Everyone was aware from the season before that we did not score many. Losing Richarlison and not replacing those goals was evidently going to harm us moving forward.

If that reason alone wasn't enough to make you get somebody through the door to burst the onion bag for us. You've got a number 9, who, by now, you know is made of paper and ultimately unreliable. You then lose said number 9.

To not get somebody in cannot be anything other than self-sabotage. The fact that they acknowledged the that we needed a striker in the form of a promise, they, true to form, showed their incompetence and failed to deliver.

If we remember all those ridiculous "targets" on and around transfer deadline day, some of them are utterly ridiculous. So much so that it leads me to question, were we ever even trying to get a striker in, and / or with the FFP disaster, could we even get anyone in?

Either way, they need clearing out before the transfer window, so we can start with a cleaner slate. It's likely Moshiri is still there, but hopefully the new investors get seats on the board and start influencing this club's decisions on or off the pitch with basic common sense.

That would mean leaving the football decisions to Dyche. Thelwell and the owners should do their utmost to give Dyche the chance to get bodies in that he feels will allow us to compete and allow him the tools to facilitate finishing higher up in this league.

It is easy to forget how little money he spent at Burnley and how well he had them competing in the league. Dyche's net spend in six years at Burnley was around £60/ £65 million.

I, for one, want a bit of stability and continuity. Chopping and changing managers has created a fragmented mess of a football squad. An amalgamation of meek time-wasters. I want a team built with characters that hold the same principles and values as the fans, or as close to them as possible. Giving 100% effort for this football club when they are on the pitch.

There is no question Dyche has more of these players; they are showing a higher level of commitment, and they are competing and working more as a team to get results in football matches.

Probably the most notable improvers are McNeil and Doucoure. Again on Sunday, McNeil was chasing down the fullback and the keeper in the closing minutes of the game, applying pressure and rushing them.
The improvements that McNeil and Doucoure have made under Dyche have simply meant that we have picked up more points in football matches. If we can recruit a few more players that show the same levels of intensity and application, If we can get a fractional increase in other areas of the pitch, it will give us a great chance at climbing up the league.

I would say that I am confident that we won't be in this position next year, as long as we let the manager do his job. At least point deduction and embargo aside
