Schalke striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has signed a two-year contract extension with the Bundesliga club.

The Dutch international's deal at the Veltins Arena was due to expire in June, but he has now agreed to extend his stay in until 2017 with the German club having an option to extend it by another season which would see Huntelaar contracted until the age of 35 and probable retirement.

Since joining Schalke from AC Milan in 2010, Huntelaar has scored 101 goals in 160 appearances - 66 in the Bundesliga, 25 in European competition and 10 in the German Cup, making the Dutchman Schalke's second highest scorer in the club's history behind Klaus Fischer.

So far this season 31-year-old Huntelaar has netted 10 times in all competitions for Roberto Di Matteo's team who currently sit in fifth position in the Bundesliga.
