Football News: Byram Is A Disposable Asset

If you are Leeds United, what do you do with Sam Byram? Knowing that you have a very good right back in Gaetano Berardi, and that Byram would raise a large chunk of cash, you would have to consider a sale.

In this FFP era in the Championship, a big money sale can make a huge difference to a club's ability to spend cash on new players. With Leeds' transfer embargo being lifted recently, according to Massimo Cellino anyway, investment in the playing squad is likely to be large.

Cellino is aiming to reach the Premier League, but, with the Football League breathing down his neck keen for an excuse to ban him, he is unlikely to want to push FFP ruling to get there. He does fancy himself as a wheeler dealer who can bring in the right players for the right prices, while selling his own at a mark up, it suits him to sell to buy.

Byram is far from indispensable for Leeds, despite being one of the club's best players, they can afford to let him go, especially if he is bringing in a large sum of money to buy other players. With a lack of a clinical forward, which it seems unlikely Lee Erwin will turn out to be, that money, spent wisely, could be the difference between the Premier League and the Championship.
