Football News: QPR Transfer Window Round Up

QPR Transfer Window Round Up
Image from: monkeysinthetrees.co.uk

This has been a big summer for QPR, following their relegation from the Premier League with their expensively assembled squad having to be torn apart to reduce the wage bill. Highly paid loan stars Mauricio Isla, Eduardo Vargas and Niko Kranjcar have gone back to their parent clubs and the belts are being tightened to try and make the club self sustaining. The ridiculous transfer policy of the Harry Redknapp era is gone and things under Chris Ramsey are starting to settle down to a process of rebuilding.

The big issue is the losses, the huge losses, which have led QPR to fall afoul of the Championship's FFP rules by a ridiculously large margin, which led to fines from the Football League, oddly enough. It does seem an odd system to make a loss making club lose more money! Even so, the main issue must be a worry over how long Tony Fernandes will continue to fund the club without Premier League football.

This is a man who was not bothered about hundreds of people being put out of work after he pulled the plug on Caterham, simply because they were not having the success he wanted. Will the same happen at QPR if they continue to struggle under his ownership? More to the point, is it him that is hindering the running of Caterham and QPR by appointing the wrong people to lead them?

If Fernandes is part of the problem, then Hoops fans have a decidely uncomfortable future to look forward to, whether he stays or leaves. At least this summer window Chris Ramsey has shown a lot more spending restraint than previous managers have done, though spending is still happening, even though the expected big money sale of Charlie Austin never happened. Will that mean the Rs have to offload heavily in January, probably, their spending is certainly not sustainable at current levels.

The outs:

Alex McCarthy was the only player to recoup some sale money back for QPR, as the shotstopper moved on to Premier League Crystal Palace. Though his fee is barely a ripple in the ocean of overspending that Fernandes has given the green light too.

Steven Caulker gained the club a loan fee of just over £1m as he heads off for a loan spell under Ronald Koeman at Southampton. Saints fans will be hoping it is not his third relegation season in a row for Caulker. There is an option to buy in the loan deal.

Bobby Zamora, the man who scored the promotion winning goal in the play offs, has moved on a free transfer to Brighton and Hove Albion.

Adel Taarabt has also left on a free to join Portugese football with Benfica.

Brian Murphy, the veteran keeper has headed down to Portsmouth on a free deal.

Jordan Gibbons has also gone to League Two, this time to join Yeovil Town on a free.

Shaun Wright-Phillips has followed brother Bradley to the MLS and joined the New York Red Bulls on a free transfer.

Michael Harriman has made a loan move to Wycombe Wanderers.

Niko Hamalainen has also gone on loan to League Two, but to Dagenham and Redbridge.

Max Ehmer has joined Gillingham on a free transfer.

Joey Barton has transferred his social media accounts to new team Burnley on a free.

Bruno Andrade has moved to the Conference National to sign for Woking on a free deal.

Jamie Sendles-White has left on a free transfer to move up to Scotland and sign for Hamilton Academical.

Richard Dunne, the veteran Republic of Ireland centre half, has been released but has yet to find a new club.

Oscar Gobern has signed on a loan deal for Doncaster Rovers.

Coll Donaldson has moved to Scottish Premier Football League side Dundee United on a free.

Rio Ferdinand has retired. At least one season too late.

Aaron Lennox was released and the Australian keeper is still looking for a new team.

Now for the ins, which are controversial as the club were able to spend money despite being so far beyond the FFP regulations which has seen other clubs put under a transfer embargo.

Massimo Luongo joined from Swindon Town following a highly impressive Asian Nations Cup during the summer. The young Australian international cost £3m.

Tjaronn Chery cost QPR over £2m as he moved from Eredivisie team FC Groningen.

Sebastian Polter has arrived from 1. FSV Mainz 05 for £1.61m, in another move that cost the club money.

Alex Smithies arrived from Huddersfield Town on a transfer that cost £1.47m, as the Rs continued to splash the cash despite the possibility of an embargo.

Ben Gladwin came with Massimo Luongo from Swindon Town on a transfer that cost QPR half a million pounds.

Daniel Tozser has joined on a free transfer from Parma in Italy's Serie A.

Jamie Mackie made his loan move from Nottingham Forest a permanent deal on a free.

Jay Emanuel-Thomas arrived on a free from Bristol City. The former Arsenal youth player has been gradually rebuilding his reputation in recent years.

Oscar Gobern arrived on a free from Huddersfield Town, before immediately being sent out on loan.

Axel Prohouly arrived on a free from AS Monaco's youth sides.

Joseph N'Guessan is another free signing, this time from League Two Stevenage.

Gabrielle Angella has arrived on loan from Watford.

Tom Rosenthal joins from Belgian Pro League side Zulte Waregem.

Grant Hall has come in from Tottenham Hotspur.

Tyler Blackwood has arrived from the University of South Florida in the USA.

James Perch has signed from Wigan Athletic.

Paul Konchesky has moved on loan from Leicester City.

QPR look to be all set for a push to return to the Premier League, after keeping hold of star striker Charlie Austin, questions remain about whether the Championship's FFP regulations can stand up to scrutiny following the way QPR have been dealt with. It will certainly be a bone of contention if their big spending once again returns them to the Prem, over clubs that have tried to keep within the regulations.
