Becks Launches Miami MLS Team - At Long Last!
David Beckham has launched the Major League Soccer team he has been planning since 2014. As part of his contract with the LA Galaxy, when he signed for them, the MLS gave him an option to buy an expansion franchise, which he took up back in 2014. Finally the team was launched, after a long running issue trying to sort out a stadium for the franchise. They now have settled on a 25,000 seat stadium in the Overtown neighbourhood. Miami was finally officially granted their expansion side by MLS commissioner Don Garber at an announcement ceremony on Monday. Beckham has become the first former MLS player to own a team in the league. The Miami team has yet to be given a name, though it is unlikely to take the name of former Miami franchise, Miami Fusion, which folded in 2001.
Sane Suffers Ankle Ligament Damage
In a 'tackle' shrugged off by Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock as something that happens in England, Leroy Sane has been found to have suffered ligament damage. The challenge by Joe Bennett saw the Manchester City winger needing to be substituted off, though the referee saw fit to only book the offender Joe Bennett. Bennett was later sent off for a second yellow card after another nasty challenge, this time on Brahin Diaz. Bennett later apologised on social media as Man City manager Pep Guardiola called on the officials to protect all players from challenges like that. With the referee seeing the incident and awarding a yellow, that has ruled out the possibility of the FA taking any kind of retrospective action.
