Review of the Day

Deal Or No Deal

Nottingham Forest have completed the permanent signing of on-loan Sporting Clube de Portugal defender Tobias Figueiredo on a 4 year deal, starting from 1st July. Figueiredo arrived at Forest in January for his loan and impressed enough in his 11 appearances, so far, to earn a permanent deal with the Tricky Trees.

In other loan moves, Brazilian forward Leandro Pereira from Club Brugge in Belgium to Sport Recife back in Brazil has ended but there was no need for him to go back as he has immediately been loaned out to another top flight Brazilian side Chapecoense.

Saudi forward Naif Hazazi has found himself a club. The free agent has joined Romanian top flight side FC Botosani.

Brazilian winger Lucca has joined Internacional on loan from Corinthians.

Another Brazilian winger, this time called Carlos, has swapped Brazilian clubs, leaving Atletico Mineiro for a loan with Parana.

KV Oostende have released South African midfielder Andile Jali.

St Mirren's captain Stephen McGinn has signed a new two year deal. The Scottish midfielder led the Buddies to promotion in his second spell with the club after spending some time playing with Watford, Sheffield United and Dundee. McGinn said: "It's a club that holds a special place in my heart. And to sign on for another two years after achieving promotion this season means a lot to me."

Joe Newell has signed a one year contract extension with League One side Rotherham United.

Espanyol Sack Sanchez Flores

Former Watford manager Quique Sanchez Flores has been sacked by Barcelona's other club, Espanyol, after a run of poor form. Four defeats in five matches has seen them stuck in 16th place in La Liga. While they are eight points clear of the relegation zone, it is difficult to argue against the decision when you realise that, in those last five matches, not only did they lose four but they failed to score a single goal. David Gallego, the reserve-team head coach, will take charge of the first team for the rest of the season.

Wenger To Leave Arsenal

I am sure you have all seen this news and read one of many thousands of articles flooding the net right now, so I will not say much other than that Arsene Wenger will leave Arsenal at the end of the season. A gentleman and a scholar is a saying you often hear but very few fit that description better than Wenger. While his time with Arsenal had clearly run its course and this is the right decision, football will be the poorer without him involved. Hopefully he will reappear soon in a new role where his 3 Premier League titles and 7 FA Cups he won with the Gunners will command the respect it deserves.

Celtic Would Not Stand In Rodgers' Way If Arsenal Want Him

Celtic's major shareholder Dermot Desmond has said they would not stand in Brendan Rodgers way should Arsenal wish to offer him the job of filling Arsene Wenger's shoes. Rodgers is, bizarrely, the bookies favourite for the job, and Desmond said: "I'm glad he's the favourite. He's an outstanding person. We wouldn't want him to leave but we won't force him to stay. Hopefully his love for the club and the set-up here will induce him to stay. I don't think you can put handcuffs on anybody if they want to go to a club as good as Arsenal. It will be Brendan's decision and his decision only." I say bizarrely because in the past when it looked like Wenger was leaving Arsenal were looking towards the continent and a manager such as Atletico Madrid's Diego Simeone, though Simeone will no longer be a potential option for the summer. Arsenal are unlikely to consider Rodgers in the same bracket as the kind of man they seek to take on the role.

R.I.P. Roy Bentley

Former England international Roy Bentley, the last surviving member of England's 1950 World Cup squad which lost so famously to USA during that particular tournament, has passed away aged 93. Bentley was the captain of Chelsea during their first-ever league triumph in 1955 and scored 150 goals in 367 appearances for the Londoners. Chelsea described Bentley as a "legend in the truest sense of the word".

Sweden Goalie Not Keen On Zlatan Going To World Cup

Guingamp's Swedish keeper Karl-Johan Johnsson has suggested taking Zlatan Ibrahimovic to the World Cup could hinder Sweden. Johnsson said: "Of course, the coach will have to make a decision on this matter, though it is true that we managed to qualify for the tournament without him. We are a good group, but he is very individualistic and this could prove to be more trouble than it is worth for us. We would have to change what is a tried and tested system for us because of his presence. I am sure he would play very well but he's a player who need the team to function around him, like Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. All of our play would go through him, undermining the collective value of our squad."

PSG Deny Neymar Buyout Clause

Paris Saint-Germain have denied reports that Brazilian superstar Neymar Jr has a release clause in his contract. El Pais had claimed there was a 300m euro release clause in his contract but that rumour has been scotched now with Ligue 1 president Didier Quillot pointing out that the contract is registered with the league and that it does not have a get-out clause and that any such clause would not be legal in French football anyway.
