Jese Given Compassionate Leave
Jese Rodriguez has been given unpaid compassionate leave by Stoke City, to allow him to be with his sick son. His loan move from Paris Saint-Germain has been a spectacular failure and he will return to PSG at the end of the season. A Stoke statement read: "In order to respond to recent press speculation surrounding Jesé Rodriguez, we would like to confirm that the club has given Jese permission to take unpaid compassionate leave until the end of the season for personal reasons and therefore he will not be returning to Stoke during his loan period."
Arsenal Are Holding On To Holding
Arsenal defender Rob Holding has signed a long term contract with the Gunners. The 22 year old has been in and out of the first team this season, with 24 appearances in all competitions. An Arsenal statement read: "We would like to congratulate Rob on his new contract and look forward to his continued contribution in the coming years."
Ref Attacked In Ethiopia Over Goal Decision
In Ethiopia's top flight a match between Defence and Welwalo Adigrat University has led to all games in the league being suspended, as the game has been blighted by violence in recent years. With the game at 1-1 a shot was adjudged to have crossed the line for Defence and the Welwalo Adigrat players chased the referee, one of their coaches grabbing him, throwing him to the ground before punching him. The Ethiopian Football Federation will meet with all 16 of the league's teams to discuss the issues.
Safe Standing To Get Parliamentary Debate
With a petition to the government receiving over 110,000 signatures, Parliament in England will now debate whether to introduce 'safe-standing' to the Premier League and Championship.
Gerrard Confirms Rangers Talks
Liverpool under-18s coach Steven Gerrard has confirmed he has held talks with Rangers over their managerial vacancy, after interim boss Graeme Murty was sacked. Gerrard told BT Sport: "I have held initial talks and I have plans to pick them up in a couple of days' time. I'm busy for a couple of days now and I'll pick it up on Thursday and we'll see if we can progress it."
Salah Adds FWA Footballer Of The Year Award
Mohamed Salah has become the first African player to win the Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year award, to add to his PFA one. He once again beat Manchester City's Kevin de Bruyne to clinch the award.
Rangers Sack Murty
Rangers have sacked caretaker coach Graeme Murty after 29 games in charge. Murty took charge in December after the sacking of Pedro Caixinha, he was previously the boss of the under-20s at Ibrox.
Marseille Defender Rejects Possible Senegal Call Up
Marseille defender Bouna Sarr was born in France to a Senegalese father and Guinean mother and has now pledged his future to France or no one. Sarr rejected the chance to represent Guinea in the 2015 African Cup of Nations and has now turned down the chance to go to the 2018 World Cup with Senegal. Sarr said: "It's France and nothing else, nothing else is a big word, but I always dreamed of playing for the France team. I'm French, I was born here I only have an attraction for the Blues."
