Review of the Day
Records Tumble In The Prem
Manchester City setting a new highest points scoring record, with 100 points, was not the only record set on the final day of the Premier League season in England. Man City also set a record for the lowest number of minutes being behind in games throughout an entire Premier League season. They trailed their opponents for just 153 minutes in the whole of the 2017/18 season. Arsene Wenger set a new Prem record by winning at Huddersfield's ground, making it the 48th different ground he had won at in the Premier League, moving him one ahead of Alex Ferguson's 47. Liverpool set a record by remaining unbeaten at home in a top-flight season for the 7th time, an all-time top-flight record. Mohamed Salah also set a new record for a 38 game top flight season by scoring his 32nd goal against Brighton & Hove Albion on the final day.
Poch Hints At Need To Spend Big
Following a final day 5-4 win over Leicester City, Tottenham Hotspur finished 3rd in the Premier League, but it has been a long time since their last trophy, 2008's League Cup. Mauricio Pochettino has now suggested purse strings need to be loosened if the club are to progress saying: "If we want to be real contenders for big, big trophies, we need to review a little. First of all, I need to speak with Daniel, then we will know what we are going to do. I think it's a moment the club needs to take risks and if possible work harder than the previous season to be competitive again. I think I have a very clear idea what we need to do; I don't know if the club will be agreeing with me or not. But we are going to talk, next week, to create the new project, or what I think what we need to do, together again, to try to improve. That is a little bit up to Daniel of course, to the club, to be happy with us, because after four years I think we need to assess that period. I think Daniel is going to listen to me. But you know me and sometimes I have some crazy ideas. In this type of situation, with a club with our unbelievable fans, being brave is the most important, and to take risks."
Ekambi Keen On Villareal Move
Angers striker Karl Toko Ekambi has confirmed he would be interested in a move to Villareal after being asked about their offer for him by RMC. Ekambi told them: "Certainly, I am interested in this club because it is a club that will play in Europe, a familial club. It is a club that interests me like several other clubs."
Allegri Set To Stay With Juve
Massimiliano Allegri has told reporters that he will stay with Juventus next season unless they sack him, following Juve sealing their 7th successive Serie A title and giving Allegri his 4th successive double. Despite being linked with the Arsenal, Chelsea and PSG jobs in recent months, Allegri told reporters: "If they don't sack me, I'll stay at Juventus next year too."
Junuzovic Heads To Salzburg
Werder Bremen midfielder Zlatko Junuzovic is set to return to the Austrian Bundesliga. It has been known for a while that he was set to leave Werder, but he only revealed his destination to be RB Salzburg after his final match for the Green-Whites. He began his professional career in the Austrian league.
