Review of the Day

Transfers

Following his release by newly promoted Premier League team Fulham, midfielder George Williams has signed for Forest Green Rovers.

Former Norwich City youth player Harry Toffolo has found a new club following his release by Millwall. The 22 year old defender will be playing for League Two's Lincoln City after he signed a two year deal with the Imps.

Young defender Jordan Storey has stepped up to the Championship after Preston North End paid an undisclosed fee to sign the 20 year old from Exeter City.

England C international Josh Rees has signed for Gillingham. The 24 year old, who started his professional career with Nottingham Forest, had been with Bromley.

Blackpool have stepped in to sign John O'Sullivan following his release by Cumbrian side Carlisle United. O'Sullivan has worked with Blackpool manager Gary Bowyer before at Blackburn Rovers.

Brentford have paid an undisclosed fee to sign Ezri Konsa from fellow Londoners Charlton Athletic.

Following a trial with Rangers, defender Thomas Isherwood has signed for Bradford City from Bayern Munich. He is the third signing for Bradford of the summer, despite the club having no manager in place.

Lincoln goalkeeper Paul Farman has signed for Stevenage after seven years at Sincil Bank.

Defender Sonny Bradley will join Luton Town on a 3 year deal in the summer. The 26 year old's Plymouth Argyle contract expires at the end of the month.

Just a few days after signing for Wolverhampton Wanderers on a permanent deal, after spending the second half of last season on loan with them, Benik Afobe is on the move again. Afobe will join Stoke City on loan for 6 months, before signing a permanent deal with the Potters as the deal includes an obligation to buy the former Arsenal forward for an undisclosed fee.

Jason Naismith is moving down south to English football as the 23 year old leaves Scottish side Ross County to sign for Peterborough United.

Croatian defender Nikola Katic has signed for Rangers from Slaven Belupo for an undisclosed fee. The 21 year old cites manager Steven Gerrard as his main reason for choosing the Scottish giants.

Young Stoke City winger Ramadan Sobhi, currently preparing for the World Cup with Egypt, has moved to Huddersfield Town for a fee under £6m.

Norwich City have lost the second of their Murphy twins as Josh Murphy has joined Cardiff City for an undisclosed fee. Cardiff are believed to have paid over £10m for the attacker, whose twin plays for Newcastle United.

Mexican international striker Raul Jimenez will spend next season on loan with Wolves after the 27 year old agreed a season long loan deal from Benfica.

Nantes have signed Slovenian midfielder Rene Krhin from Spanish side Granada.

Former Sunderland midfielder Emanuele Giaccherini has left Napoli to sign for Chievo.

Crystal Palace have released duo Joel Ward and Bakary Sako. Ward was a weak link at right back for the team, who was clearly miles out of his depth in the Premier League but was somehow a regular. Sako, on the other hand, was just beset by injury after injury.

Werder Bremen have snapped up Swedish right back Felix Beijmo from Djurgarden for just under £3m.

Reims have sold forward Jordan Siebatcheu to Rennes for just under £11m.

RB Leipzig have paid over £12m to bring Uruguayan full back Marcelo Saracchi over to Europe from Argentinian football. The 20 year old had been playing for River Plate.

Villareal have splashed out again, this time £18m on Spanish forward Gerard Moreno from Espanyol.

Levante have signed Uruguayan centre back Erick Cabaco from Uruguayan side Nacional for just under £2m.

US Sanctions Cause Iran To Lose Nike Boots

The US trade sanctions Donald Trump has applied to Iran has led to Nike withdrawing the supply of boots to Iranian footballers. Iran's preparations for the World Cup have been hit as a number of their players usually wear the sportswear giants products. Iran head coach Carlos Queiroz has appealed to FIFA to help his players. I am not sure what on earth FIFA are expected to do, unless they can do the world a favour and get rid of the bewigged gimp?

Atletico Succeed Where Arsenal And Liverpool Failed

After both Arsenal and Liverpool have failed to reach an agreement with Monaco for the signing of French international Thomas Lemar, Atletico Madrid have managed to reach a preliminary agreement with the French side. The 22 year old is currently with the France squad preparing for the World Cup, but should finalise the nearly £60m deal quickly.

World Cup Linesman Told Not To Flag Tight Calls

FIFA's referees committee chairman, Pierluigi Collina, has revealed that linesmen will be operating under instruction to keep their flag down on tight calls. Collina said: "They were told to keep the flag down when there is a tight offside incident and there could be a very promising attack or a goal-scoring opportunity because if the assistant referee raises the flag then everything is finished. If the assistant referee keeps the flag down and the play goes on and maybe a goal comes at the end, there is a chance to review the goal using the technology. If you see some assistant referee not raising the flag it's not because he's making mistakes. It's because he's respected the instruction to keep the flag down." Is that not just the same as they were supposed to be doing, ie giving the benefit of the doubt to the attacker? Not that they ever did anyway, but they surely should have been.

Lopetegui Named New Real Madrid Coach

Spain's head coach Julen Lopetegui will not be able to relax on his return from the World Cup as he will be stepping straight into Zinedine Zidane's shoes at Real Madrid. It was a surprise choice for Madrid, after being linked with all and sundry, apart from him.
