Review of the Day

Transfers

Newcastle United have made their 4th signing of the summer by adding Swiss international Fabian Schar to their squad from Deportivo La Coruna. They have also let goalkeeper Matz Sels leave for Strasbourg. Both players moved for a fee of £3.6m.

In a signing that, even though he is never expected to play as he is the third choice veteran back up keeper, makes little sense, Chelsea have moved to sign one of the worst goalkeepers of the Premier League era, Rob Green. The 38 year old veteran was released by Huddersfield Town at the end of the season, and he has swapped their bench for sitting in the stands most weeks. Odd. Whatever happened to youngsters getting a break when injuries hit?

Oldham Athletic have taken young keeper Daniel Iverson on loan for the season from Leicester City after the 21 year old Dane impressed on a trial period with the Latics.

Cheltenham Town have made a double transfer swoop. Midfielder Jacob Maddox has arrived on season-long loan for the season from Chelsea, while Manny Duku is the latest player to make the step up from non-league ranks in the hope of making a career in the game after a late start. The 25 year old was with Hayes & Yeading last season and the Robins will be hoping he keeps scoring at the rate he managed there, as the Holland-born forward scored 33 league goals.

Burnley goalkeeper Conor Mitchell has joined St Johnstone on a season-long loan.

Stevenage have added free agent forward Kurtis Guthrie to their squad. The 25 year old left Colchester United in March after having surgery on an ankle injury.

Frank Lampard's Derby County have added their 4th signing at the 4th attempt. The Rams had placed 3 previous bids for Peterborough United striker Jack Marriott, which had all been rebuffed, but 4th time's a charm, apparently. The 23 year old forward has joined Derby for an undisclosed fee.

Porto have stepped in to sign sought after Brazilian full-back Eder Militao from Sao Paulo for £3.6m.

Bayern Munich have splashed out a record fee for a player from Major League Soccer, as they spent nearly £10m to sign Vancouver Whitecaps teenager Alphonso Davies. The fee could nearly double with add ons if the youngster, who was born in a refugee camp after his parents fled fighting in the second Liberian civil war, does well. Davies is the youngest player ever to play for Canada, making his debut aged just 16 years old last year and went on to be selected for Canada's Concacaf Gold Cup squad, finishing the tournament as joint top-scorer. Let's hope he does better than the previous record holder, Jozy Altidore.

Young French midfielder Jeff Reine-Adelaide has left Arsenal to join Angers on a permanent deal after spending time with the Ligue 1 side last season on loan.

One-time highly rated Uruguayan forward Diego Rolan has moved to CD Leganes on loan from Deportivo La Coruna.

Getafe have paid £3.6m to sign Spanish winger Ivan Alejo from Eibar. Eibar have spent the same amount to sign Spanish midfielder Sergio Alvarez from Sporting Gijon.

Manchester City's young striker Thierry Ambrose has joined Ligue 2 side Lens on loan.

Udinese have paid Juventus an £18m fee to sign young Italian midfielder Rolando Mandragora.

BWP Notches Fastest 100 In MLS History

New York Red Bulls number 99, Bradley Wright-Phillips, has set a new record in Major League Soccer by reaching 100 league goals in the least amount of games. The son of legendary Arsenal goalscorer Ian Wright has reached the 100 mark in just 159 games in the league, only the 11th player ever to score 100 goals in MLS.

Emery Backs Ramsey To Stay With Gunners

Despite being in the final year of his contract, Unai Emery has stated that he believes Welsh midfielder Aaron Ramsey will stay with Arsenal in the longer term. Emery said: "I think Aaron is an important player. The contract is one thing for the club and the player. I want him to stay with us, to work with us, to give the team the big performances with his quality. I think he is going to stay here with us."

Roma Owner Refuses Barca Apology Unless They Send Him Messi

Roma's president James Pallotta is very fond of running his mouth, and, after spending the last few months whining about UEFA, Liverpool and anyone else he could think of to blame for AS Roma's defeat in the Champions League semi-final, he has now got both barrels firmly aimed at Barcelona. Following the La Liga club nipping in to gazump Roma to the signing of Brazilian winger Malcom from Bordeaux, Pallotta is understandably not best pleased. However he really does himself and his club no favours with his constant media outbursts. His latest was in an interview with Sirius XM radio: "Malcom? Barcelona jumped into the mix, no question they did so unethically. Monchi was on a video conference the following morning with Malcom's agent, who said, 'Look Monchi, I'm wearing red, the deal is done.' But we've gotten legal advice on the situation and it looks like Bordeaux will be testifying. Even yesterday, Barcelona called us to apologise, but I don't accept their apology. The only way I accept their apology is if they send us Messi. Malcom wanted to come to us, there were other clubs interested such as Leicester and Everton but they weren't having formal talks. We had already agreed to a buyout clause of €120 million. Nothing was signed? That's bullshit. Every club knows how things work. Forget about the legality, it's unethical and immoral. His agent? Maybe he's a moron." It is easy to see why Pallotta is upset, especially when even Ikea are trolling his club on social media over the non-signing, but he really is just a big-mouthed **** who moans about everything and anything constantly. No wonder the Roma fans hated him prior to the jump into the fountain, all he does is blame everyone and anyone else for everything. It is tiresome.

James Becomes The Latest Target Of The Spanish Taxman

The list of footballers targeted by Spain's tax authorities is ever-growing, and Colombian star James Rodriguez is the latest big name to be added. James is accused of evading 6.35m euros in taxes and he is being asked to pay a fine and interest on top of that amount, which brings the total to 11.65m euros!

Mainz Confirm Muto Move Close To Toon

Bundesliga side Mainz 05 have confirmed that they have reached an agreement to sell their Japanese striker Yoshinori Muto to Newcastle United for a fee of around £9.5m. Mainz director Rouven Shroder said: "We have had good and constructive discussions with Newcastle United and we have come to an agreement in principle. There are still some key details to clarify, but we are confident that we will soon reach a final transfer decision."
