Review of the Day

Transfers

Norwich City goalkeeper Remi Matthews has joined Bolton Wanderers on an initial loan which is to become a permanent deal in January.

Spanish midfielder Tomas Pina has swapped Club Brugge for Alaves for an undisclosed fee.

French striker Kevin Gameiro has left Atletico Madrid to join Valencia in a deal worth over £14m.

Young defender Thile Kehrer has become Paris Saint-Germain's latest big money signing. The 21 year old has joined PSG from FC Schalke 04 for a fee of over £33m.

Thistle To Investigate Abuse Claims

Inverness Caledonian Thistle are to investigate claims by one of their own players that his family were verbally abused at the ground after the midfielder missed a penalty. Liam Polworth called the incident "embarrassing", as he criticised Caley fans on social media.

Swans Target Loan Signings

After selling off all their senior centre backs, bar one, and pretty much anyone else they could, Swansea City's new owners have defender their actions by saying they would be targeting some loan signings. Even then, COO Chris Pearlman was not 100% sure there would actually be any signings, saying: "We're looking at a handful of guys and I think everybody recognises that we're not as deep as we want to be. It's difficult to say I can guarantee it, but having said that I'd be surprised if there weren't." Fourteen (14!!!) players left the Swans with only five being brought in as the new owners point to financial difficulties caused by dropping out of the top flight. It just shows how much former chairman Huw Jenkins lost his way while the club were in the Premier League. He was always careful to keep the club profitable in the early part of his reign, remembering how close the club had come to oblivion in the recent past.

Kane Extends August Streak

Tottenham Hotspur and England striker has extended his run of games in August without scoring to 14. The World Cup Golden Boot winner has never scored a Premier League goal in August, despite 46 shots in 14 games. Luckily for Spurs, that did not matter to them as Dele Alli's streak also continued for the London side. He has now scored in 33 different Premier League games for Spurs without ever ending up on the losing side. No wonder Mauricio Pochettino so often plays him as far forward as possible!

Agent Starts Making Excuses For Courtois

Thibaut Courtois's agent, Christophe Henotay, has claimed that the goalkeeper did not go on strike at Chelsea to force a move to Real Madrid. Henotay instead claims that Courtois missed training because of "stress". Henotay says: "The deal was about to be realised. It's probably something that ideally we wouldn't have wanted. This was the situation, he apologised and finally everybody is happy. It's true that some players push and it's true that at certain moments Thibaut was getting a bit stressed by the situation because Madrid made an offer and he had an opportunity to go. He was a bit stressed that this could not happen. There has been a misunderstanding that he wanted to get a move for the wrong reasons, but he was pushing to go out of Chelsea because of his child. If the family were in London it would have been totally different. He would have stayed, there is no reason to leave a club like Chelsea, he could have won trophies. Unfortunately his kids are living with the mother in Madrid. He had the contract and it depended on Chelsea, but running close to the end of his contract, Chelsea had an interest to find a deal with Madrid, which they did. It is personal reasons so we have to respect this. Chelsea understood the situation and really helped to get the deal. They did a really quick and easy deal together, understanding the humanity of the situation. It is not doing something against their fans, it is about getting the best of a situation that is not ideal."

Atleti Fans Upset At Courtois

It is not just Chelsea fans that are unhappy with Thibaut Courtois's move to Real Madrid. Fans of previous club Atletico Madrid are angry at his decision to sign for their bitter rivals. Some were so angry that they vandalised his plaque outside the brand new Wanda Metropolitano stadium on the 'walk of legends' (though the term legend is used loosely as the walk has a plaque for every player who has made 100 or more appearances for the Spanish club). Atleti fans had previously targeted the plaque for Mexican striker Hugo Sanchez in the first game at the new stadium, as he had swapped Atleti for Real Madrid back in 1985. However the fury at Courtois, who kissed the Real Madrid badge on signing for the club, was much worse. Rata (rat) was sprayed over the plaque in red paint, many others were spitting and pouring drinks on the plaque. Atleti have been forced to deploy security guards to protect it from further damage as cleaning attempts fail to remove all of the graffiti.

The Ronaldo In Intensive Care

Not to be confused with Cristiano Ronaldo, who never gets ill as he is a cyborg sent from the future to dominate the sport, Brazilian legend Ronaldo, one of the greatest strikers of all time, is in intensive care in Ibiza after being taken ill with pneumonia. Ronaldo often holidays in Ibiza, as he owns a holiday home there. He is one of the few players who is held in great esteem by fans of Barcelona and Real Madrid, as well as AC Milan and Inter Milan, having played for all four clubs in a glittering career that saw him score 62 goals for his country in 98 appearances.

Monaco Confirm Keita Sale

It's ok Liverpool fans, the Keita that is close to being sold is not Naby, but Keita Balde to Inter Milan. AS Monaco's vice-president, Vadim Vasilyev, has told BeIn, when asked about the Balde deal: "Yes, we are dealing with the Nerazzurri. There are still some details to file, so I can not say that is closed, but we are on the right track. I think we have enough players in attack, but, as always, I remain pragmatic: if there are great opportunities that arise, we will not hesitate to catch them."

Tedesco Agrees New Deal

Despite the loss of defender Thile Kehrer, last season's runners up in the Bundesliga, Schalke 04, have reason to celebrate today. The Ruhr club has agreed a new contract with head coach Domenico Tedesco. His previous deal was set to end next summer, but he is now tied to the side until 2022. Tedesco said: "I have always said that I feel completely at home here. I love working with this team, it's so much fun because they are always ready to take the next step so that we can develop ourselves on a sporting level. The same goes for the work with the board, the support from the committee and the employees of the club. They all motivate us a lot, to play for the fans, who support this club and the team so brilliantly. I am therefore really looking forward to being part of the Royal Blue family for the coming years." Tedesco, aged just 32, is one of a new breed of exciting young coaches being given their chance in German football, presumably because Sam Allardyce is unavailable.

Juve Forced To Abandon Friendly Against.....Juve After Pitch Invasion

Juventus's first team took on their under-19 side this weekend, a match in which Cristiano Ronaldo made his debut for the Turin giants. Thousands of fans turned up to catch a glimpse of their new Portugese megastar signing and were not disappointed when he opened the scoring. Unfortunately for the team, in this their final warm-up game before the season proper begins, thousands of fans invaded the pitch with 20 minutes left to play, to celebrate with CR7. The mob of fans was so great that it led the game to be abandoned with the score 5-0 to the first team.

Chelsea Pair Arrive In Italy Ahead Of Moves

Chelsea pair Tiemoue Bakayoko and Ola Aina have both jetted off to Italy to complete moves away from the Londoners. Aina is set to sign for Torino, whole Bakayoko is off to Milan. Both players are expected to move on loan for the season with options to buy them.
