Review of the Day

Transfers

Adam Le Fondre, who left Bolton Wanderers earlier in the week to pursue what he called "the opportunity of a lifetime", has instead joined the A-League to play for Sydney.

Joel Campbell's initially reported loan move to Serie A side Frosinone has instead turned out to be a permanent deal for the Costa Rican international, not a 7th loan spell away from Arsenal.

Millwall midfielder Ben Thompson has joined Portsmouth on loan for the season.

Free agent forward Wes Thomas has joined Grimsby Town on a 1 year contract. The 31 year old had been released by Oxford United.

Fleetwood Town striker Ashley Nadesan has returned to Carlisle United on loan until January. Nadesan spent the end of last season on loan with the Cumbrians.

Barnsley winger Dylan Mottley-Henry has returned to Tranmere Rovers for another loan spell. The 21 year old spent last season on loan with the Merseysiders, this time he is joining until January.

Gary Rowett is clearly targeting a quick-fire second relegation with Stoke City as he has added the hapless Cuco Martina on a season-long loan from Everton, after already signing the hopeless Ashley Williams from the Toffees.

Millwall have signing former Reading midfielder Jem Karacan until January. The 29 year old was a free agent after being released by Bolton Wanderers at the end of last season.

Blackpool full-back Nick Anderton has joined Accrington Stanley on loan until January.

Australian youngster Daniel Arzani has finally completed a protracted loan move to Celtic, after a work permit was issued. The 19 year old will spend 2 seasons in Glasgow, learning to play in a league that a BBC headline called League One standard today. Though I personally think that is a bit harsh, there is no way League One has fallen so far....

Leganes have signed full-back Allan Nyom on a season-long loan from West Bromwich Albion. They have also spent over £5m to sign striker Youssef En-Nesyri from Malaga.

Former Arsenal winger Gervinho has returned to Serie A on a free transfer after Hebei China Fortune agreed to release the Ivory Coast international. Gervinho had not featured for the club since they made Chris Coleman (all that money and he is the best they could get? Really?) their new manager. Gervinho has now signed a 3 year deal with Parma, who returned to Serie A on the back of 3 successive promotions.

Speaking of Arsenal, they have allowed Colombian international goalkeeper David Ospina to join Napoli on a season-long loan.

Veteran midfielder Claudio Marchisio has mutually agreed a termination of his Juventus contract, leaving the 32 year old Italian international as a free agent. He had been with the Bianconeri for 25 years, rising through the ranks of the youth team.

Polish striker Lukasz Teodorczyk has been bought by Udinese for a fee of over £6m from RSC Anderlecht. Udine have also spent just under £3m on Nigerian centre back William Troost-Ekong from Bursaspor.

Liverpool defender Ragnar Klavan has been sold to Cagliari for a little over £1m.

Torino have paid a loan fee of nearly £2m to sign Italian striker Simone Zaza from Valencia for the season. They also paid another loan fee of around £900,000 to take Roberto Soriano on loan from Villareal.

Sampdoria have paid just under £500k to take Italian defender Lorenzo Tonelli on loan from Napoli.

Atalanta have paid a fee of double that to sign Emiliano Rigoni on loan from Zenit St Petersburg.

Olympiakos have signed Guilherme from Deportivo La Coruna for around £2.25m.

AC Milan and Villareal have done a double deal. Moving to Milan from Spain is Spanish winger Samu Castillejo for £22.5m, while going in the other direction is Colombia striker Carlos Bacca, for a fee of over £6m.

Serie A side SPAL have spent over £2m on Italian midfielder Simone Missiroli.

Schalke 04 have spent over £6m on young left-back Hamza Mendyl from LOSC Lille.

Uruguayan World Cup star Diego Laxalt (he of the corn rows) has swapped Genoa for AC Milan in a deal worth over £12.5m.

Celtic Assistant Asks The Fans To Back Boyata

With Dedryk Boyata, formerly known as the 'bomb scare' until a couple of half-decent World Cup performances against opposition so bad even England beat them easily, doing his best to force his way out of Celtic to cash in on those only two decent performances since arriving in Scotland, Celtic's assistant manager Chris Davies has asked the fans not to 'vilify' the centre back. Boyata has already refused to play for Celtic in Europe, despite the bid for him being from Fulham, who are not in Europe. Davies said that he believes comments by the agent about Celtic blocking a move "had not helped the situation" but feels "there is no point vilifying anybody or blaming one individual. Obviously there has been a lot of frustration from the supporters but, as it stands, he is still a Celtic player and that may well be the case when the window shuts, so we can't say he will be leaving the club."

Atleti Receive Fine For Third-Party Deal

Atletico Madrid have been fined just over £40,000 for signing a player on a deal that allowed third-party ownership, despite such deals having been outlawed by FIFA. The player has not been named but the penalty seems a little weak for something that could end up being worth many millions.

Poyet Suspended By Bordeaux

The manager of Girondins Bordeaux, Gus Poyet, has been suspended by the club for a week after criticising the sale of a player he wished to keep. Having already said he is considering resigning, I am not sure suspension is all that much of a punishment and just leaves the club in a mess. This is not his first suspension since moving into management, Poyet was also suspended, and later fired, in 2013 by Brighton & Hove Albion over a breach of contract.

Pot Accuses Kettle

Real Madrid have reported Inter Milan to FIFA for allegedly tapping up Croatian star midfielder Luka Modric. Inter deny any wrongdoing and told the BBC that the complaint was based on "circumstantial evidence". It is really hard to have any sympathy with Real Madrid, who are probably the worst offenders in world football for tapping up and unsettling players they want to sign, with only fellow La Liga side Barcelona standing comparison. Perhaps if they started treating other teams with respect and professionalism they might not look a complete joke when they complain. Instead they just look like whiny babies who have collected up everyone else's toys then threw a tantrum when someone else wanted to play with one of them.

City Lose De Bruyne For 3 Months

The knee injury suffered by Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne has turned out to be worst case scenario. It was feared he could be ruled out for up to three months and it has turned out to be that way. This is the second serious injury he has suffered to his right knee in two years, missing 12 games in 2016 after picking up the injury during an EFL Cup semi-final win over Everton.
