Review of the Day

Transfers

Nottingham Forest have added yet another midfielder to a squad overflowing with midfielders in the shape of Argentine former West Bromwich Albion veteran Claudio Yacob. The 31 year old was a free agent having left the Baggies in the summer.

Former Bolton Wanderers and Crystal Palace winger Chung Yong Lee has found a new club in the form of second tier German side VfL Bochum.

One of the young English players who tried their hand in the Bundesliga has been released. Forward Kaylen Hinds has been let go by VfL Wolfsburg. The former Arsenal youth player had gone awol for a number of weeks and so Wolfsburg terminated his contract with immediate effect.

JJ Takes Charge Of Morton

Greenock Morton have picked former Rangers assistant manager Jonatan Johansson as their new manager. Johansson, who also played for Rangers, started his coaching career at Morton as their reserve boss six years ago. Morton chairman Crawford Rae said: "JJ has a fantastic work ethic, a great football brain. Jonatan has a fantastic CV, both playing and coaching, and has been eager for an opportunity to get into management. We are thrilled about our appointment and we look forward to sharing this new chapter together. I cannot wait to see him in action as we rekindle Greenock Morton's long-standing Nordic association of over 50 years."

Camara Announces His Retirement At The Age of 28

Former Derby County player Abdoul 'Razza' Camara has retired with immediate effect after being diagnosed with a heart condition. His current club, Guingamp, had previously announced that he would not play for the club again for medical reasons. Camara told footmercato: "We have to move on, even if it's hard to accept. I've been waiting for the news for three weeks. I tried to stay strong just in case. Since I was 13, my life is football. I had struggled to come back after my cruciate ligament injury. And there, you are told that you will never wear a football shirt again. We can say that it is an evil for a good. But I have not yet digested this. You can not digest that fast. I need time. Yes, it's not like an injury where you can fight back. With this I can not do anything. Everything falls apart at that moment. The club helps me in many ways. They are there for me. The president [Bertand Desplat] is really there to support me. He is close to me. If I need him or the club, I know they will be there. Right now, I want to discover other sides of football. I have former coaches who have spoken to. Former club presidents have called me too. Maybe I'll go by their side to learn, and one day I'll really know what I want to do."

EFL Chairman Steps Down

The chairman of the English Football League Ian Lenagan has stood down from the role after just over two years. Lenagan was previously chairman of Oxford United and owns rugby league side Wigan Warriors. Debbie Jevans, a former tennis player and current EFL board member, will take temporary charge while a new chairman is sought.

Spurs To Play Home Game In Milton Keynes

With Wembley unavailable for Tottenham Hotspur's Carabao Cup tie with Watford, Spurs' have been given permission to host the game in Milton Keynes. Watford had asked for the tie to be switched to their ground, but the EFL decided in favour of Spurs' proposal of playing it in the home of MK Dons.

Girona Confirm They Are Involved In USA Talks

Rumours have been sweeping around that the La Liga plan to play a league game in the US involved Girona giving up their home match against Barcelona, to face the Catalans in Miami (maybe because they are Inter Miami?). Girona have now confirmed that the rumours are correct, and that they are in talks with both the league and Barcelona over a game to take place in late January.

Mertesacker Once Again Admits Relief At Not Playing

Former Arsenal captain (why would you make him captain???) Per Mertesacker has admitted he was relieved not to play in his final year. Nowhere near as relieved as Arsenal fans were, or as disappointed as opposing fans were, but he was relieved and felt 'great' now he has retired from playing as he struggled with stress each time he played. Again, probably not as stressful as watching him play for Arsenal fans. While I understand he was struggling, it meant he was stealing a wage, when he could easily have retired and gone into coaching much sooner. While I understand he was "struggling mentally", it was his choice to put himself in that position, when he had no financial need to continue. Difficult to have sympathy with someone who acts out of greed....

Denmark Dispute Takes A step Forward

Ryan Giggs' Wales team will not be facing futsal players and part-timers as the Danish FA and their top players have agreed to resume talks. The players have agreed to play for their nation while talks continue. Now the Welsh will be set to play against the likes of Christian Eriksen instead of sales reps and internet freestyle stars.

Maradona Gets Mexican Job

Legendary former footballer Diego Maradona has taken a new job as head coach of second-tier Mexican side Dorados de Sinaloa. His last club management role was as head coach of Al-Fujairah in the UAE, which he left in April after failing to win automatic promotion with the Emirati second-tier club.

Sneijder Goes In To International Retirement

With a record 134 caps in his cabinet, Netherlands midfielder Wesley Sneijder has retired after the 2-1 win over Peru in the Amsterdam Arena. Bizarrely after the game he and his family, all of them in their best John Terry fkw mode, sat on a sofa in a mocked up living room to watch a TV displaying goodwill messages from fellow pros. Who on earth thought that was a good idea?

Neymar Named Permanent Captain

Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar Jr has been appointed as permanent Brazil captain by manager Tite. Previously Tite had rotated the captaincy between various players.
