Review of the Day
Auba's Dad Not Set To Become Gabon Coach
Arsenal's Gabonese international striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has hit out at his national federation after they announced that his father was set to become joint head coach of Gabon, alongside another former international Daniel Cousin. Aubameyang posted on social media: "You (the federation) announce to the whole world that my father is going to be national team coach - you don't even have his agreement. The president of the federation called my father and didn't even ask about his health - even though he is sick at the moment. Just going ahead and giving a press conference even though my dad had said he would be giving an answer the next day - which was going to be 'no' by the way. Not even letting him have the choice to negotiate over his staff for example. Anyway the day the federation stops being amateurish maybe the national team will be able to progress and once against earn some good results. You ask yourselves why I have problems with you? Why I don't want to come and play for the national team? Well you have just shown why once more."
Transfers
Free agent Scottish winger Ross Wallace has joined Fleetwood Town after a trial period. The 33 year old, who has just one cap for Scotland, was released by Sheffield Wednesday at the end of last season.
Cadiz have added free agent Spanish centre back Sergio Sanchez to their squad.
SPFL side Hibernian have signed a free agent in the shape of left-back Miquel Nelom. Nelom had been contracted to Feyenoord throughout his career, before they released him in the summer.
Cahill Set To Ask For A Move
Chelsea's former England centre back Gary Cahill is set to ask for a move in January if he has been unable to force his way into the side. The 32 year old, who is out of contract next summer, was captain last season but has been unable to break into the team this season, even when new manager Maurizio Sarri made 5 changes in the Europa League. Cahill said: "I have to take charge of my own future. For me to do this all season is going to be very difficult. I realise sometimes football doesn't wait for people. Sometimes you have to make those decisions to keep going and progressing. Obviously the most important thing is the club, but I have to look at my situation. And if I'm sat doing what I'm doing at this moment in time, I just hope that the club will respect that when it comes to the time."
Aguero Signs Contract Extension
Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has signed a one-year contract extension, extending his deal until 2021. Aguero said: "I'm very happy because they have treated my very well since the first day I got here. My idea was being here for 10 years. This was the main reason I signed." Aguero signed from Atletico Madrid in 2011.
Vieira Defends Balotelli
Patrick Vieira has defended his Nice player Mario Balotelli after the press criticised his performance for Italy in the 1-1 draw with Poland. Vieira said: "Mario was severely criticised in Italy: it's always like that when the team doesn't win, you need someone to blame. I think that Mario was the perfect culprit for the Italian press. It's a shame. We spoke about it together, and I know that for these kinds of things, he is strong enough mentally to deal with the situation. But they have really been unfair with him. He doesn't have an issue, it's OK. I have always said that he needed time, he isn't yet at 100 percent, but he trained all week, his attitude is good, he works well. Every day, I see a player who applies himself, who wants to find his level, to score and to play with his friends. When he is there physically, he is someone who is very important for us. He will travel to Montpellier, that's for sure."
Lyon Ban Nazi Salute Fan
Lyon confirm they have tracked down the fan seen giving a Nazi salute during their 2-1 win over Manchester City in the Champions League in mid-week. A Lyon statement read: "Lyon inform that the individual guilty of an inexcusable act Wednesday evening in Manchester has been identified by the club's security services and that his identity has been passed onto the French and British police services. Lyon strongly condemn such acts and reiterates that the definitive measures to suspend the individual from the stadium and any official trips organised by the club have been taken. The club have pressed charges against the individual and put themselves at the disposal of the British and French justice services in order to collaborate with any investigation which may be opened, in order to prosecute and punish the individual in question."
Matic Pays For 4 Year Old's Cancer Treatment
Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic has donated 70,000 euros to pay for 4 year old Dusan Todorovic to travel to Barcelona for treatment. The youngster suffers from neuroblastoma, and a campaign was launched to raise the 200,000 euros to pay for his therapy. When Matic found out that the appeal was still 70,000 short, he donated it anonymously. It was only discovered who had sent the money when the child's parents disclosed it on national radio in their native Serbia. Matic is already well known in his homeland of Serbia for generosity after paying off all of the debts in the village in which he grew up in March 2016.
Six Minutes Enough To Get Brazil Call
Despite playing just six minutes for Barcelona this season, due to an injury, summer signing Malcom is in the Brazil squad for next month's international friendlies, as Tite proves that it is all about the big names playing for big clubs, rather than who deserves the place. Barca team-mates Coutinho and Arthur have joined him in the squad.
Brazil squad:
Goalkeepers: Alisson, Ederson, Phelipe
Defenders: Danilo, Fabinho, Alex Sandro, Marcelo, Marquinhos, Miranda, Eder Militao, Pablo
Midfielders: Casemiro, Arthur, Walace, Fred, Renato Augusto, Everton
Forwards: Firmino, Jesus, Malcom, Neymar Jr, Richarlison
