Lascelles Signs New Deal

Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles has signed a new 6 year contract with the club, tying him there until 2024. The 24 year old centre back joined the Toon in 2014 from Nottingham Forest as part of a deal also involving goalkeeper Karl Darlow. Lascelles said on NUFC TV: "I'm over the moon - it's great news to be tied down to Newcastle for a long time. It's pretty much all I ever wanted: playing in the Premier League in front of amazing fans. I think now as players, we just need to give the fans what they deserve. We need to put in the performances and make it even more special. Since I've been here, everything's been really positive and now I need to get my head down and get this team higher up the league."

Stewart Guilty Of Head Butt

Kilmarnock's on-loan forward Greg Stewart has been found guilty of head butting Hamilton Academical's Scott Martin on Saturday and handed a 2 game ban for violent conduct. The 28 year old is on loan from Birmingham City.

Irish Launch Joint Hosting Bid

The Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland have launched their first ever joint bid to host a football tournament together. The pair are hoping to win hosting rights for the 2023 European Under-21 Championship finals. Neither country have ever qualified to compete in those championships yet.

Smith Asks For Grealish Protection

As if football is not soft enough already, Aston Villa's new manager Dean Smith has asked for more protection for Jack 'Overrated' Grealish, as he feels his 'star' is being targeted by tactical fouls. Smith said: "On the continent, there's more yellow cards for tactical fouling. People need to be carded. When there's players like Jack Grealish that can influence a game so much with his talent, he'll be targeted because they can't get the ball off him. He's one of the best I've seen at protecting the ball - and it frustrates the opposition. There were certain incidents when he was fouled and advantage was played, yet they didn't go back and speak to the players who were doing the fouling. A player of that quality needs protection from referees. They should be brandishing yellow cards." While I do agree with Smith, there should be more cards for tactical fouls, I disagree that Grealish needs protecting from anything other than his own ridiculously overinflated ego. Also, I disagree that he is one of the best at protecting the ball, he just dawdles on it and wastes possession, that is not the same thing. If he had the intelligence to pick out an early pass every once in a while, he would not get fouled anything like as often.

Edinburgh Clubs Condemn Derby Violence

Wednesday's Edinburgh derby between Heart of Midlothian and Hibernian saw plenty of unsavoury incidents, with Hibs manager Neil Lennon struck by a coin thrown from the crowd and Hearts goalkeeper Zdenek Zlamal claiming he was punched by a fan. There were also attacks on the assistant referees, with 5 arrests so far being made, one 25 year old man already having been charged for the assault of an assistant referee. Both clubs have condemned the incidents and will work together to identify the culprits.

Petition Launched In Support Of US La Liga Match

This is one of those stupid ideas that just will not go away! Now an organisation called 'La Liga North America' has launched a petition in support of the plan to play one Spanish top flight match in the USA. The petition claims it would be good for football in the USA, rather than it being just about earning money. The sad thing is that it is Barcelona, who used to stand for something other than just making as much money as possible, that are involved as one of the teams looking to play a match there.

Rafinha Apologises For Halloween Costume

Bayern Munich's Brazilian full-back Rafinha has posted a public apology after dressing up as an Arab holding a box of explosives for Halloween. A picture of him in the costume was tweeted by Bayern on Wednesday but taken down later and Rafinha apologised saying: "Halloween is a scary celebration with exaggerated costumes. It was not my intention to anger anyone through my disguise or hurt someone's feelings." That will be the last time he takes Prince Harry's advice on a fancy dress outfit....

Man Utd Launch Security Review

Manchester United have launched a security review after a pitch invader during last month's Champions League game against Juventus was found to have had two toy guns in his backpack, though he had taken neither with him when he invaded the pitch. This is the third incident in the last couple of years were security was found to be lacking, with a dummy training bomb left over from a security exercise in a toilet causing the stadium to be evacuated and a match against Bournemouth to be postponed. There was also an incident with 2 supporters sleeping inside Old Trafford in an attempt to watch United take on Arsenal by absconding from an organised tour of the stadium. A Red Devils spokesperson regarding this latest incident said: "Carrying a children's miniature plastic toy gun into a stadium is clearly an irresponsible act. Fortunately, the actions of the pitch intruder at the Juventus game did not harm anyone. However, as the security and safety of all fans and staff is the absolute priority at Manchester United, the club immediately launched an investigation. This includes a full review of our already rigorous security protocols, using our own security teams together with external expert consultants."

Where Is Ze Love?

(I apologise for the terrible gag in the headline, I tried to resist the temptation, but I am weak, sorry!) Brazilian Serie B club Oeste have released 31 year old forward Ze Love.
