Review of the Day

Napoli Want Cavani On The Cheap

Napoli's president Aurelio de Laurentiis has said he would love to sign Edinson Cavani, if he could get him on the cheap. AdL told Gazzetto dello Sport: "If they want to get rid of him in Paris and he decides to earn less, we will welcome him with open arms. If Ancelotti wants him at the end of the season, PSG would lend him for free or sell him at a symbolic price, and he is happy with 6 to 7 million euros in salary, that would all be feasible. In January, however, no one will be bought." Cavani has been very open about his desire to return to Napoli one day, the club where he scored 104 goals in 138 games between 2010 and 2013, but his salary is out of reach of the Neapolitans.

Hammers Confirm Nasri Interest

West Ham United manager Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed that he does want to sign Samir Nasri, someone he knows well from their time together at Manchester City. Nasri is currently training with West Ham as he looks to build up his fitness for a return to football after an 18-month ban. Pellegrini said: "Samir Nasri is working here with us. It's a long time that he had his ban but we are giving him a hand to return to football. I hope that from now until the end of the year he will be fit, and if that is the case we will try to keep him here at West Ham."

Pellegrini Looking To Keep Arnautovic

Austrian striker Marko Arnautovic's brother (and representative) Danijel has openly stated that he believes that Marko should be playing for a team higher up the table, West Ham manager Pellegrini wants to keep hold of his key forward though. Pellegrini said: "He is a West Ham player because he has a contract here, he is happy here. Every player always wants to play in the biggest team but I don't think that Marko is thinking about that. He is thinking about West Ham and he tries to make his best performance in every game."

Gignac Extends Mexico Stay

Mexican club Tigres UANL has extended the contract of their former French international forward Andre-Pierre Gignac. The signing of Gignac was a shock at the time but the 32 year old was top scorer in the 2016 Clausure and is once again league top scorer in the current Liga MX Apertura. His new contract is reported to run until 30th June 2021.

Wycombe Change Loan Keepers

League One club Wycombe Wanderers have taken David Stockdale on an emergency loan from Birmingham City for a week to provide injury cover after QPR keeper Matt Ingram's loan spell ended with QPR unwilling to extend it. Wycombe's senior keepers Ryan Allsop and Yves Ma-Kalambay are both currently injured.

Throw-In Coach Extends Liverpool Contract

Danish coach Thomas Gronnemark has impressed Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp in his six-month probation period and has now been awarded an extended contract which keeps him at the club until the end of the season. England have also benefitted from the coaching, as a Joe Gomez long throw, developed thanks to working with Gronnemark, was used to create an equaliser against Croatia. Gronnemark told the BBC: "Gomez's throw-in against Croatia showed it is a dangerous weapon for Liverpool and England. I think it won't be used very often, but the opponents have to think twice before they put the ball out of play. The extension documents Liverpool's satisfaction with my work and the fact that they recognise and acknowledge the results we've achieved with the players. I hope that our hard work will be rewarded with good results when the season comes to an end in May."

Mane Also Extends LFC Contract

Gronnemark is not the only person at Liverpool to extend his contract. Even more importantly to the club is the announcement of Senegalese forward Sadio Mane's new 5 year contract. After widespread speculation about his future, it has now been put to bed following Mane's signature on a deal that runs until 2023. Mane said: "I am very happy to extend my time at Liverpool. It is a great day for me and I have made the best decision in my career. I am looking forward to everything - to helping the team, to helping the club achieve our dreams and, especially, to win trophies. I've always said, when I knew I had a chance to come here I didn't have to think twice. The right club in the right moment and with the right coach as well. I came here and was very happy."

Hughton Rules Out Republic Job - For Now

Brighton & Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton has pulled himself out of the running for the Republic of Ireland job. Hughton was given 53 caps as a player and has acted as their assistant manager in the past, however he is not keen on taking on the number 1 role at the moment. Hughton said: "I can understand any link. But at this moment I have a job here that I'm desperately keen to do as well as I possibly can. Certainly at this moment, for me, I have no interest in the job. The only interest I have is in the job here at Brighton. I know the feel of being involved with the Irish team as a player and as a coach because I was Brian Kerr's assistant for three years. But at this moment I enjoy working day to day at a club like this, which is a wonderful club and a wonderful environment. Would I think about it in future? The honest answer is I don't know. Will there be a stage in my career where I might think about international management if there's a particular offer - or will l always want that day to day involvement? I just don't know."

Parker Gets Fulham Assistant Role

Scott Parker has been given a promotion in the backroom at Fulham, following the replacement of Slavisa Jokanovic with Claudio Ranieri. Parker, now 38 years old, has been appointed as assistant manager to Ranieri. Parker spent 3 years as a player with the London club, playing over 100 games while completing his UEFA coaching badges and coaching the academy sides.
