Review of the Day
Two Arrested For Racial Abuse
Footage from the main stand at Tynecastle, as Hearts lost to Motherwell, showed around 20 fans racially abusing Motherwell substitute Christian Mbulu as the 22 year old warmed up. Two have so far been arrested as a Hearts' statement threatened indefinite bans for all the abusers, saying that the club "abhors racism and all forms of abuse, and the individuals in question will receive indefinite bans from Tynecastle Park". Motherwell boss Stephen Robinson told the BBC: "I've just seen the video of it. I thought this was 2018 but that was the dark ages and dinosaur stuff. For a player to have to take that kind of stuff is disgusting. They should not be anywhere near football. There is no place for that in any walk of life. No walk of life should accept that in modern society."
Racial Abuse At Chelsea Being Investigated
More video footage has emerged on social media of racial abuse of a player, this time in the English Premier League, as Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling moved to collect a ball from behind the goal-line in yesterday's defeat to Chelsea. Chelsea and the Metropolitan Police are investigating, with Chelsea promising to "take the strongest possible action where necessary". The Metropolitan Police stated: "We are aware of a video circulating online in which it is claimed racial abuse was allegedly directed at a player. We will review the footage to determine whether any offences have been committed."
De Jong's Agent Denies PSG Rumours
Frenkie de Jong's agent Ali Durson has denied that there is a deal in place with PSG, yet. The Ajax youngster has been linked with both Manchester City and Barcelona as well as Paris Saint-Germain, but recently rumours had suggested that a move to the Parisiens was already in place but Durson said that there is "no deal with PSG yet". He also said "Frenkie is guaranteed to stay with Ajax until the summer and I cannot say anything about it."
PSG Deny L'Equipe Reports
L'Equipe have reported that PSG have to sell either Neymar Jr or Mbappe in order to avoid falling afoul of FFP regulations. The Parisien club have moved to deny the story, labeling the report "erroneous, ridiculous and likely to create great tension". They also questioned the publications "intellectual honesty and ulterior motives".
Gracia Admits Watford Contract Is No Guarantee
Watford manager Javi Gracia has admitted that his new long term Hornets contract does not guarantee his future with the club. Gracia said: "In my opinion signing a new contract doesn't change my day or my mentality. You have to do the same every day with the same attitude, the same effort, and trying to do your best, and try to win the next game. That's the mentality I have with a new contract or without it, it doesn't change. In my opinion, the decision was because the owner, in this case, he thought it would be better for the club and for me to sign a new contract, but my commitment, my effort with the club doesn't change. I'm the same, knowing that as a coach it always depends on the results."
