Review of the Day
Contracts
Olympique Lyon teenager Amine Gouiri has signed a new deal contracting him to the club until 2022.
Veteran full-back Jordan Harvey has signed another year's deal with Los Angeles FC.
Transfers
Peterborough United have made a double loan signing of defenders until the end of the season. Ben White has joined from Brighton & Hove Albion, while Daniel Lafferty moves from Sheffield United.
Forest Green Rovers, who signed an entire new team in the summer, have made yet another signing as they paid an undisclosed fee to Bristol City for 21 year old forward Shawn McCoulsky.
Another Rovers, League One's Doncaster Rovers, have also signed a new player. This time it is Swansea City defender Aaron Lewis on loan until the end of the season.
Jaap Stam has swooped to bring Pelle Clement from Reading to rejoin him at PEC Zwolle. Stam took him to the Royals from Ajax while he was in charge there.
Barnsley have sold midfielder Brad Potts to Preston North End for an undisclosed fee. The 24 year old has signed a 3 and a half year deal with Preston. Preston have also completed the signing of striker Jayden Stockley from Exeter City after they triggered the release clause in his contract. Tommy Spurr has returned to parent club Preston after the end of his loan spell with Fleetwood Town.
Accrington Stanley are set to invest in new dressing rooms following the sale of Janoi Donacien to Ipswich Town. The 25 year old, who hails from St Lucia, was initially signed on loan in the summer by the Tractor Boys as he waited for a work permit application to be processed. The 2 sides will face each other on Saturday in the FA Cup 3rd Round.
Middlesbrough's Danish forward with a name that sounds like a stockbroker in a 1970's sitcom, Martin Braithwaite, has moved to La Liga side Leganes on loan for the rest of the season. The 27 year old requested a transfer at the end of August, probably not the best time to do so.
Falkirk have made a double signing. Midfielders Ross MacLean and Ian McShane (he's come a long way since Lovejoy!) have joined from SPFL sides Motherwell and St Mirren respectively.
Forest Green Rovers 'big' rivals Cheltenham Town have signed a left-sded player on loan from Bristol City. Cameron Pring has rejoined on loan until the end of the season, after being a youth player at Cheltenham before joining Brizzle. Another player leaving Bristol City on loan is Rory Holden, who has joined Rochdale until the end of the season.
Scunthorpe United have made a double signing of St Mirren midfielder Adam Hammill and Oxford United full-back Tony McMahon.
An undisclosed fee has been paid to Irish league side Dundalk for winger Dylan Connolly. The 23 year old is Wally Downe's first signing as AFC Wimbledon manager.
Ajax have allowed Colombian full-back Luis Manuel Orejuela to join Brazilian side Cruzeiro on loan.
Former Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi has been released by Tianjin Teda of the Chinese Super League.
VfL Wolfsburg have released Polish right winger Jakub Blaszcykowski.
Greek midfielder Panagiotis Tachtsidis has left Nottingham Forest for Lecce on loan for the rest of the season.
AS Monaco have begun adding veteran experience to their squad to help out the youngsters with the signing of 36 year old centre back Naldo from Schalke 04 for a fee of under £2m.
Oldham Athletic have released striker Ishmael Miller.
Former Sunderland and Bayern Munich player Jan Kirchhoff has found a new club. The 28 year old, who has suffered badly with long term injuries in recent years, has joined second tier German side 1.FC Magdeburg.
Irish forward Cillian Sheridan has swapped the Polish Ekstraklasa and Jagiellonia to join Wellington Phoenix of the Australian A-League, despite being from New Zealand. Maybe it is something to do with the complaints from Kiwis that their country is often missed off world maps? Including the one inside their new passports, which has bizarrely forgotten to include the island on its world map, despite it, in part, being produced in response to complaints about the country being missed off the world map inside the old version!
Tom Bradshaw has completed a permanent move to Millwall from Barnsley after spending the first part of the season on loan there.
More More Arrests Over Potteries U-21 Derby
Ten more people have been arrested over the disorder at the Port Vale versus Stoke City under 21s. Two were arrested on suspicion of violent disorder, while the other 8 are out on bail while inquiries continued. The arrests were made thanks to information from the public.
Trotters Under Registration Embargo
Bolton Wanderers are having discussions with the English Football League (EFL) and the Football Association (FA) after being placed under a registration embargo over unpaid debts. The club have a trio of players who require permission to play for the club, starting with Saturday's FA Cup tie against Walsall. Both Christian Doidge and Remi Matthews joined on loan deals which were to be made permanent in this January transfer window, while Gary O'Neil was signed on a short-term deal which can not be extended without permission.
Morelos Cleared
Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos was investigated over 3 incidents involving him during the Old Firm Derby, which his side won 1-0 over Celtic, but is set to face no retrospective action. Match referee John Beaton saw all 3 incidents and so no action is available to the SFA.
Defoe Set For Move North Of The Border
Former England striker Jermain Defoe is set to join Rangers on an 18 month loan deal from current club Bournemouth. The 36 year old has made just 4 substitute appearances so far this season in the Premier League and is looking for regular first team football. The expected arrival of Defoe and Steven Davis from Southampton will be a huge boost in Rangers attempt to wrest the Scottish title from reigning champions Celtic.
Chelsea Fan Fined And Banned For Homophobic Chants
20 year old Chelsea fan George Bradley has been fined £965 and banned from attending football matches for 3 years after pleading guilty of using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour to cause harrassment, alarm or distress. Bradley have been using homophobic chants during a match against Brighton & Hove Albion in December.
Terriers Close To Puncheon Move
Crystal Palace midfielder Jason Puncheon is closing in on a move to Huddersfield Town after falling out of favour at his current club. Huddersfield are currently propping up the Premier League table and struggling to create chances, something manager David Wagner hopes Puncheon will hope to correct.
Deeney Asked To Explain Comments
Watford captain Troy Deeney has been asked to clarify the comments he made following the Hornets 3-3 draw with Bournemouth on Wednesday. Deeney accused referee David Coote of bottling a number of decisions, including one in which Deeney alleged Bournemouth midfielder Dan Gosling was trying to do Tom Cleverley. Deeney said in the post-match interview for Match of the Day: "Doucoure probably did get lucky [not to be sent off], but you can't tell me that their boy [Gosling] did not try to do Tom Cleverley. They know it. We know. But the referee bottled it on a few occasions."
Balotelli Sent Home By Vieira
Nice manager Patrick Vieira has sent Mario Balotelli away from the club to think about his future with the French side. Vieira has admitted he is struggling to get the best from the Italian international striker, who Vieira recently said he would like to slam against the wall ("I have to think twice before I say anything, because it can have an impact and I risk losing a great player. When it comes to Mario, I want to answer back, or just slam him up against the wall or leave him hanging by his collar on the coat rack, but I can't, as I'm no longer a player. I don't want to say something I'll regret. I am trying to be constructive in my comments to him."). Vieira has now told reporters: "I have given Mario a few extra days off to think about his future and what he wants to do. He's under contract here and everything is possible, if we can come to a common agreement who knows."
