Review of the Day

Transfers

Watford's Italian international striker Stefano Okaka (how bad must Italy have been when he has 4 caps?) has joined one of the Pozzos' other clubs. The 29 year old will spend the rest of the season on loan with Udinese after managing just 3 appearances for the Hornets this season.

Goalkeeper Chris Maxwell has joined Charlton Athletic on loan from Preston North End for the rest of the season.

Young Leeds United defender Paudie O'Connor has moved to Bradford City on loan until the end of the season. The 21 year old spent the first half of the season with Blackpool.

Tyreeq Bakinson has extended his loan spell with Newport County. The 20 year old has already made 27 appearances for the Exiles in his loan from Bristol City.

Collin Quaner has swapped one struggler for another as the 27 year old has gone on loan to Ipswich Town from Huddersfield Town for the rest of the season.

30 year old midfielder Greg Tansey has joined St Mirren on an 18-month deal following his release from his contract with Aberdeen.

Crystal Palace have allowed Norwegian forward Alexander Sorloth to go on loan to Belgian side Gednt for the rest of the season. The 23 year old has struggled since making a £9m move from FC Midtjylland in the previous January transfer window.

Lee Tomlin has gone Posh as the 29 year old has joined League One's Peterborough United on loan from Cardiff City.

Celtic have added Ivory Coast forward Vakoun Issouf Bayo to their squad after signing him on a 4 year deal from Slovakia's Dunajska Streda.

Defender Oscar Threlkeld has returned to Plymouth Argyle on loan until the end of the season. The 24 year old left Argyle in the summer to sign for Waasland-Beveren on a Bosman free move but has not been able to force his way into the first team for the Belgian top flight side.

Grimsby Town have paid an undisclosed fee to IF Brommapojkarna for Swedish defender Ludvig Ohman.

Midfielder Jim O'Brien has signed for Notts County following the end of his short term deal with Bradford City.

Chris Long has moved down the road to sign for Blackpool after having his contract with Fleetwood Town terminated by mutual consent.

Young Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Bright Enobakhare has gone back out on loan after returning from a spell with Kilmarnock. The 20 year old will finish the season with League One team Coventry City.

Crawley Town have nipped in to sign defender Tom Dallison on an 18 month deal. The 22 year old's contract with Falkirk was ripped up by mutual consent on Monday.

Pepe returns to Porto after 12 years away. The 35 year old Portugese defender left Porto to join Real Madrid and has returned via Besiktas, who released him in December.

Rangers' Mexican forward Eduardo Herrera has joined Mexican Liga MX side Necaxa on loan.

FC Dallas have paid over £2.5m to sign Bryan Acosta from Tenerife.

Watford have signed teenage forward Filip Stuparevic from Serbian SuperLiga side FK Vozdovac.

Italian midfielder Luca Valzania has swapped one Serie A side for another as he has joined Frosinone on loan from Atalanta.

St Mirren have taken Romanian defender Mihai Popescu on loan from Dinamo Bucharest.

Contracts

Gabriel 'Gabigol' Barbosa has extended his loan spell with Flamengo until 2022. The 22 year old Brazilian forward is on loan from Inter Milan, after he struggled in Italy.

Italian centre forward Alessandro Rossi has agreed a new deal with Lazio. The 22 year old is now tied to the Roman club until 2022.

Abraham Looks Set To Stay With Villa

It looks like Tammy Abraham will continue his loan spell with Championship side Aston Villa after a move to Premier League Wolverhampton Wanderers fell through, for now at least. Wolves remain interested in taking the 21 year old from Chelsea in a permanent deal but have yet to hear back from FIFA about his eligibility to play for them, due to players being unable to play for 3 clubs in a season. FIFA have to rule on whether the Premier League's Under-23s competition and the Community Shield count as competitive matches, with Abraham having played in both for Chelsea before his loan with Villa began.

Trotters Fans Get New Ally

Bolton Wanderers Supporters' Trust has gained itself a new ally after Bolton's current chairman upset Forest Green Rovers chairman and owner Dale Vince by failing to complete a previously agreed deal for a player or pay the players wages while he was on loan with them. The Bolton supporters' trust website had a statement which said they felt the club's name had been dragged through the mud after Christian Doidge was forced to return to FGR. Vince has now offered Bolton Wanderers fans who attend FGR's game with Bury on 19th January (a day when Bolton are not playing) a free pint, after a number had said they were intending to travel down to watch the League Two side in action. Forest Green have also began selling t-shirts with the slogan 'No Ken Do' on the front, with all profits to go to the supporters' trust, who are trying to raise the funds to buy the club from current chairman/owner Ken Anderson.

Rowett Sacked By Potters

The world's most negative and dull manager (yes his teams produce even worse football than Tony Pulis and Jose Mourinho on their worst days) Gary Rowett has finally got his marching orders from Stoke City with the boos of Stoke fans still ringing in his ears. Rowett was appointed in May to try and return the Potters back to the Premier League following their relegation last season, but he leaves with Stoke only 14th in the Championship with just 8 wins under their belt. Rory Delap will take temporary charge of the team until a permanent replacement for Rowett is found.

Barca Swoop For Todibo

Toulouse youngster Jean-Clair Todibo has agreed a deal to join Barcelona when his contract with the French side expires in the summer. The 19 year old can play in midfield or defence, though is mainly a defender, will make the Bosman move in the summer after impressing the Catalan giants in his 10 appearances so far since making his debut in August.

Dembele Close To China Move

Tottenham Hotspur's silky smooth Belgian midfielder Mousa Dembele is close to completing a move to Chinese Super League side Beijing Guoan. The 31 year old has suffered with injury niggles in recent years, though has still managed to be a key player for the Londoners. Chairman Daniel Levy is keen to cash in on him before his contract expires in the summer, with him once again sidelined by injury.

Salah Retains CAF Player Of The Year

Liverpool and Egypt attacker Mohamed Salah has lifted the Confederation of African Football Player of the Year award for the second consecutive year. Salah beat competition from Liverpool team-mate Sadio Mane and Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to win the trophy, to add to his 2 in a row of BBC African Footballer of the Year awards.

Egypt To Host AFCON

The Confederation of African Football have finally announced that Egypt will host the 2019 edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, after they beat South Africa in a vote by 16 votes to 1. Cameroon were stripped of the hosting rights due to their slow preparations. This will be the 5th time Egypt have hosted the championships.
