Transfers

Former Chelsea (and almost Manchester United) midfielder Jon Obi Mikel has signed a short-term deal with Tony Pulis's Middlesbrough. The Nigerian international was released by Chinese side Tianjin TEDA in November.

Crystal Palace have bolstered their squad with the signing of a new goalkeeper. Lucas Perri arrives on loan from Sao Paulo with option for the move to be made permanent.

Dundee have signed Scunthorpe United right-back James Horsfield on loan for the rest of the season.

Peterborough United midfielder Mark O'Hara has joined Lincoln City on loan.

Forest Green Rovers have spent an undisclosed fee to sign Udoka Godwin-Malife from National League South side Oxford City.

Another young defender moving for an undisclosed fee is Southend United's Taylor Curran, who has joined Swindon Town.

Manchester City youngster Luke Bolton has joined Wycombe Wanderers on loan for the rest of the season.

Livingston have signed Ciaron Brown on loan from Cardiff City.

Paul Downing has joined Doncaster Rovers on loan from Blackburn Rovers.

QPR have recalled David Wheeler from his loan spell at Portsmouth, as the 28 year old started just one league game in the first half of the season.

AS Monaco have cancelled winger Gil Dias's loan move to Nottingham Forest and sent him on loan to Olympiakos instead.

Brighton & Hove Albion's Argentine midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has rejoined Argentinos on loan, immediately after the Seagulls paid over £7m to sign him from the Argentinian Primera Division side. Brighton's Ecuadorian winger Billy Arce has also gone out on loan to a team in his home country, in his case CS Emelec.

Genoa have paid just under £1.5m in fees to take Juventus' central midfielder Stefano Sturaro on loan.

New York Red Bulls have picked up Marc Ratkowski on a free transfer from fellow Red Bull club (though entirely unconnected according to UEFA which is why the 2 clubs are able to face each other in European competition) RB Salzburg.

AC Milan defender Stefan Simic has joined Frosinone on loan.

MLS side Atlanta United have splashed nearly £12m to sign Argentine left winger Gonzalo Martinez from River Plate.

Japanese winger Takashi Inui has moved on loan to Alaves from Real Betis.

 

Contracts

Huesca defender Jorge Pulido has a new deal which expires in the summer of 2022.

Another La Liga club to hand a Spanish centre back a new deal is Leganes who have extended Unai Bustinza's contract 2021.

Preston North End midfielder Paul Gallagher has signed a contract extension which runs until 2020.

 

Canaries To Up Leeds Security

An online campaign entitled #Welcome Norwich has led to Norwich City preparing extra security for their visit to Leeds United. The hashtag has encouraged Leeds fans to give a hostile reception when the clubs meet on 2nd February. Norwich's chief operating officer Ben Kensell said: "Working with the assistance of Leeds United and the police following intelligence from them and concerned supporters about possible safety threats to our team coach made via social media, we have taken extra security precautions."

 

Winkler Quits Oakwell For The Terriers

Barnsley assistant head coach Andreas Winkler has quit to take up the same role with Huddersfield Town. The 49 year old has only been at Barnsley since June, when he joined under Daniel Stendel. Winkler has previously worked with new Huddersfield Town manager Jan Siewert at Rot-Weiss Essen.

 

Wigan Want Fox

New Nottingham Forest manager Martin O'Neill has revealed that Wigan Athletic are interested in signing defender Danny Fox from Forest. The 32 year old Scottish international has been with the Tricky Trees since January 2014.

 

Hefele Out For The Season

Nottingham Forest centre half Michael Hefele has been ruled out for the season due to an Achilles injury. The 35 year old requires surgery to cure the problem and is almost certain to miss the rest of the season. Forest will also be without fellow centre back Michael Dawson for the next 6 weeks after suffering a set-back in his recuperation from his hamstring injury in Martin O'Neill's first training session.

 

CAF Expel Egyptian Side From Champions League

The Confederation of African Football have booted Egypt's Ismaily out of their version of the Champions League. The punishment was inflicted after crowd trouble put an early end to their home game with Tunisian side Club Africain. With Club Africain leading 2-1, the crowd pelted an assistant referee and Africain players with water bottles and stones. Ismaily are expected to face further action from the Disciplinary Board.

 

Madrid Returns To The Top Of Football's Rich List

Deloitte's 'Football Money League', based on season 2017-18, has seen Manchester United slip down to 3rd from top spot last time around based on club revenues, as Real Madrid and Barcelona move into first and second respectively. Six of the top 10 clubs were from the English Premier League, the most ever in the 22 years that Deloitte have been compiling the list.

Moses Has Fener Medical

Chelsea forward/wingback/left-back-on-the-bench Victor Moses has completed a medical ahead of a loan move to Turkish Super Lig side Fenerbahce. The 28 year old has already had a whole host of failed loan moves to the likes of Liverpool, Stoke City and West Ham United since joining from Wigan Athletic.

 

Qatar Discover Copa America Opponents

This season's guest in South America's Copa America are Japan and Qatar for the tournament which opens in Brazil on 14th June. The 3 groups are:
Group A: Brazil, Bolivia, Venezuela, Peru
Group B: Argentina, Colombia, Paraguay, Qatar
Group C: Uruguay, Ecuador, Japan, Chile

 

Henry About To Get The Hook

Thierry Henry is set to become the second manager to be sacked by Monaco this season as the 2017 Ligue 1 champions sit in the relegation zone after Henry failed to have any positive effect on the squad in his first-ever managerial role. Monaco are now expected to bring back Leonardo Jardim, who Henry replaced 3 months ago.
