Review of the Day
Transfers
Paris Saint-Germain have released midfielder Lassana Diarra. The 33 year old former Arsenal, Chelsea and Real Madrid midfielder (how did such an average midfielder end up with such a good CV in terms of clubs played for???) has hinted at retirement.
David Stockdale has returned to Birmingham City at the end of his emergency loan deal with Coventry City.
Portland Timbers have taken Paraguayan full back Jorge Moreira on loan from River Plate.
Contracts
Wolverhampton Wanderers have awarded Moroccan international Romain Saiss a new deal. The 28 year old defender/midfielder is now locked in until 2021.
Former Ipswich Town and Crystal Palace full back Jonathan Parr has extended his deal with Stromsgodset until the end of 2022.
Teenage midfielder Lewis Ferguson has extended his Aberdeen contract until 2024.
Saint-Etienne have renewed Robert Beric's contract until 2022.
Colorado Rapids midfielder Kellyn Acosta has extended until 2021 with a 2 year club option. Keegan Rosenberry and Diego Rubio have also signed new deals with the Rapids which run until 2021 but without the club option.
Veteran midfielder Darian Mackinnon has a new deal with Hamilton Academicals which runs until 2020.
Swansea City are trying to tie Daniel James down with a new deal and say they are making progress in negotiations with the winger, who nearly joined Leeds United on transfer deadline day.
Gary Roberts signs a new one-year extension to his contract. The 34 year old was due to be out of contract at the end of the season, but is now tied to Wigan Athletic for an extra year.
Sheffield United pair Billy Sharp and Enda Stevens have signed new deals. Sharp has agreed a new 2 year deal, while Stevens' extension is a 3 year contract.
Lambert Gets 2 Match Ban
Ipswich Town manager Paul Lambert has been punished with a 2 match touchline ban, and a £3,000 fine, for his sending off against Norwich City on 10th February. Ipswich were also fined £20,000 and Norwich £25,000 for 2 bust ups between the players, one of which led to Lambert's involvement in a confrontation with Norwich coach Chris Domogalla which saw the pair dismissed.
Millwall Hit With Racist Abuse Charge
The Football Association have charged Millwall after a large number of their fans clearly chanted a racist term during the match. Millwall have said they will ban for life anyone identified using racist abuse, which should be easy as it was so loud and clear to hear the chant it must have been pretty much the entire Millwall support. Probably easier to identify who was not chanting. Though media reports, the FA and Millwall will continue to pretend it is a small minority of their support and that is why the problem has not gone away.
Leeds Youngster Set To Return To Training
Leeds United's teenage winger Jack Clarke is to return to training after his health scare on the bench during the draw with Middlesbrough. The 18 year old was taken off at half-time and then had to be treated during the second half before being taken to hospital. He will return to light training next week.
Rodgers Blames Ref For Valencia Defeat
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has pointed the finger of blame at the referee for his team's defeat in the Europa League. Rodgers said: "I thought the referee took the game away from us. I thought it was a free-kick to us because the player came in on the blind side and sort of had contact with Jeremy, which knocked him over. That then changes the dynamic of the game. I spoke to the referee after the game. He said it was a definite sending-off. I thought it was really harsh."
Klopp Fined £45,000
Speaking of managers blaming the ref, Jurgen Klopp has been fined £45,000 after accepting an FA charge for comments he made about referee Kevin Friend following the match against West Ham United.
Man City Fan In Critical Condition
A 32 year old Manchester City fan is in critical condition in Germany after a violent confrontation with two Schalke supporters inside the ground. The man was punched and fell down banging his head which caused massive trauma to his skull and brain, according to German police.
Sarri Dismisses Roma Links
Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has ruled out reports that he could be leaving the Londoners for AS Roma. Sarri has been under pressure due to a run of mixed results and a stubborn refusal to look to new tactics or players to improve matters. However he denies any consideration of leaving Chelsea saying: "Of course no, I have a contract with Chelsea for next season so it is impossible."
