Review of the Day

Barton In Tunnel Incident

Police are once again investigating Joey Barton after an incident in the tunnel at the end of Fleetwood's match with Barnsley, after Barton's Fleetwood side lost 4-2. Barnsley player Cauley Woodrow posted on social media that Fleetwood manager Barton had confronted Barnsley boss Daniel Stendel and that Stendel had been left with "blood pouring from his face" before he took the post down. South Yorkshire Police stated: "We are aware of something that has taken place in the tunnel after the game and we are investigating." Barton was prevented by police from leaving the ground after the game.

Lincoln Win Promotion

Lincoln City have become the first club in the English Football League to win promotion this season after a draw with Cheltenham Town in League Two. Manager Danny Cowley, with a lot of help from his brother Nicky, has now won 2 promotions in 3 years at the club and won the Checkatrade Trophy last season.

CAF Appoint New General Secretary

The Confederation of African Football has appointed Hajji Mouad, from Morocco, as its new General Secretary, following last week's dismissal of Egypt's Amr Fahmy. CAF had refused to confirm reports Fahmy had been dismissed until their Executive Committee elected Mouad.

West Ham To Get Their Claret Pitch Surround

West Ham United have finally been able to get the claret pitch surround they believed will make the London Stadium feel more like their home stadium. Until now the cover for the athletics track, which runs around the outside of the football pitch, has been green as that was the preference of the London Legacy Development Corporation. They finally came to an agreement to change it to claret back in November but the new look will not be seen until the Hammers face Leicester City on 20th April.

49 Year Old Gets First International Call Up

Forty nine year old plumber Martin Smith, from Ipswich, has been selected for the British Virgin Islands international squad as a reserve goalkeeper after being spotted playing in a charity match. On Richard Branson's holiday island of Mosquito in the Caribbean. As you do like (just remember that, all those signed up for our charity match in the summer, you never know who is watching!). If he does manage to win a cap, only the great George Weah will have played international football at an older age. The Liberian president played in a full international for his country against Nigeria at the age of 51.

Hammers To Ban Anti-Semitic Fans

West Ham United fans were videoed travelling to face Manchester United singing anti-semitic chants. West Ham issued an immediate response on seeing the footage: "We are disgusted by the contents of the video. These people are not welcome at our club - they are not welcome in civilised society. We are taking immediate action to try to identify the offenders, whose details we will be handing over to the police and will be banned for life from London Stadium and from travelling with the club. West Ham United is unequivocal in its stance - there is no place for this kind of behaviour at our club."

Fabregas Could Not Compete With Sarri's Son

Cesc Fabregas has claimed he could not stay with Chelsea as Jorginho is like a son to Maurizio Sarri, which is why he joined AS Monaco in the summer transfer window. Fabregas said: "I was at Chelsea and I could have renewed my contract to stay there. A new coach came and he came with a player that, for him, was like his son. For me it was difficult to play every single game - this is what I want to do. I love football. When I played for Chelsea, I'm happy. [But] it was impossible to play every match - for whatever reason it was." Personally I find it bizarre they would have given him the option to stay considering his legs were gone years ago.

Football Clubs Or Fashion Brands?

Nike will release four kits for Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Barcelona next season, as the kit manufacturers look sell even more of the ridiculously overpriced kits in the 2019/20 season. Despite there being no need for any club to have more than 2 kits, most already have three, but that is not enough in this world of greed is good. No one will be surprised that PSG is one of the 3 clubs, as they were already not much of a football club anyway and more of a fashion brand, and Barca always try and claim they are 'more than a football club' but Chelsea? I mean really?

Barzagli To Hang Up Boots

Juventus' veteran defender Andrea Barzagli has hit out at young players as he announced he will retire in the summer. Barzagli said: "I thought about my future a lot and it is time. When you are a footballer you find it hard to think about the aftermath. Also because of the injuries, I decided to retire in June. I'm starting a journey understanding what I would like to do. What I will do? There is confusion, I am attracted to everything in the world of football. I will evaluate it. I have to understand what I am capable of doing. I have to be functional, I have to understand what interests me and if I know how to do it well, this is fundamental to undertake a new path. As a child, I dreamed of playing football. I always did it with great enthusiasm. I have to find something that gives me as much enthusiasm. I'm training with so many boys, football has changed a lot. I think it is important to find the desire to come to the field and make ourselves available and improve. There are champions who never give up and who are born with great skills, others become great footballers. You get it if you want it, not if you talk. Lately, I see a lot of chatter and few facts. In our team, all those who come are good guys with a desire to improve. Over the years I have sent little of this desire to improve."
