Review of the Day
Canaries Return To Prem
Norwich City have confirmed automatic promotion to the Premier League with a 2-1 win over Blackburn Rovers. They only need to avoid defeat to be promoted as champions. Rotherham United also confirmed that their time in the Championship is over after they lost 2-1 to West Bromwich Albion. In League Two Yeovil Town's 2-2 draw with Northampton Town was not enough to save them and they will be outside the EFL next season. In Scotland Ross County confirmed automatic promotion and the Scottish Championship title with a game left to play after thrashing Queen of the South 4-0.
Hamilton Coach Taken To Hospital
Kick-off in the 3-3 draw with Livingston was delayed after Hamilton Academical's goalkeeper coach Brian Potter has been taken to hospital with chest pain after collapsing on the pitch just before the game started. The 42 year old was taken away on a stretcher. Accies manager Brian Rice said: "It's very concerning. Brian had chest pains after the warm-up. I don't have any news at the minute."
Canadian Premier League Launches
Canada has launched the Canadian Premier League, the first professional football league in the world's second-biggest country since the 1980s. It began with a game between York 9 FC and Forge FC and ended 1-1. York 9's Ryan Telfer scored the first-ever goal in the league before Kadell Thomas equalised.
Sancho Hit By Lighter
Jadon Sancho was hit by a lighter thrown from the crowd as Borussia Dortmund lost to local rivals Schalke 04 to cede the advantage to Bayern Munich in the battle for the Bundesliga title. Sancho set up the opening goal before being hit in the face as the players celebrated the goal. The game was marred by controversy as Dortmund ended up with 9 men and lost 4-2, with a controversial penalty awarded by VAR for hand-ball, which Lucien Favre termed "the biggest scandal in football", turning the game after Dortmund's early lead.
CR7 Gets 600th Club Goal
Cristiano Ronaldo has scored his 27th goal for Juventus, to add to 5 for Sporting Clube de Portugal, 118 for Manchester United and 450 for Real Madrid to reach the 600 goal milestone in club football. He also has 85 goals for his country.
PSG Shocked In Cup Final As Neymar Lashes Out At Fan
Rennes shock league champions Paris Saint-Germain as they beat them on penalties, after a 2-2 draw, to become the first team other than PSG to lift the Coupe De France for 5 years. The Parisian went into a 2-0 lead before throwing it away with an own goal and Kylian Mbappe's sending off. To make matters worse for PSG, their star Brazilian cry baby Neymar Jr has decided to stop pretending to be hurt and attempt to hurt Rennes fans. Multiple cameras caught footage of the whining cheat taking offence to being filmed and, after attempting to push the phone away Neymar punched the man in the face. Neymar was walking up steps to collect his well deserved losers' medal, when he threw the world's most pathetic punch before heading off up the stairs, no doubt to have a good cry and blame the officials. Neymar then went on to criticise the younger members of the PSG team for not listening to the advice of the older players, such as himself. Neymar whined: "We need to be more like men in the dressing room, we must be more united. I see a lot of young players who are, not lost exactly, but they lack more ear than mouth. They must listen more than they talk. Sometimes a more experienced guy speaks, and they answer back. The coach himself speaks, and they retort. This is not how a team goes far. We are more experienced, so they must respect us a bit more, listen a bit more. I had to do the same when I was starting out." One day the gimp will realise you have to earn respect and he has done nothing to earn anything but contempt.
Barca Win Title
Lionel Messi came off the bench to score the only goal against Levante (his 598th goal) and win the La Liga title for Barcelona. With 3 games left and a Champions League semi-final to look forward to, Barca have won their 26th league title. They are still 7 behind Real Madrid, who have won the Spanish title 33 times.
Rovers Defender Beats Mbappe
Kylian Mbappe was clocked at a mind-boggling 10.55m/s recently, a faster speed than Usain Bolt reached in his world record 100m race, but his speed has already been better. By a defender. In the English Championship. 20 year old Blackburn Rovers defender Tyler Magloire has been clocked at a top speed of 10.6m/s, leading manager Tony Mowbray to comment that "nobody beats him in a foot race".
Stowe School Ask Liverpool For Help Spotting Future Footballers
£35,000 a year private school Stowe School is set to offer free education to 100 pupils a year that are talented footballers. The school has turned to Liverpool FC's scouting database to help them fill the scholarship slots with children who have talent but parents who cannot afford to pay the school's fees. The school currently has 10 pupils on full scholarships and hope to increase that to 400 in the next few years, with the help of LFC to identify potential in children in deprived inner city areas of the country.
