Berahino On Trial

Stoke City flop Saido Berahino's star has fallen so far that he has had to go on trial with Belgian club Zulte Waregem in an attempt to get a move. At one time his sulking at West Bromwich Albion was due to interest from Tottenham Hotspur, who were willing to pay over £20m for him in 2015. Since then his lack of fitness, goals and constant sulking added to his off-field issues have seen him unwanted and he admits he just wants to get out of England saying: "If it's good to be away from England? Absolutely. I want to build up something new in a different environment. It's not about money right now, otherwise I'd be in Russia or China. Really, I'd like to stay here. We'll see what happens next week. I have fun here and the quality is higher than I expected. I also get along well with the coach." Berahino is now trying to have his Potters' contract terminated by mutual consent.

Deegan Out With Blood Poisoning

Cambridge United have lost their Irish midfielder Gary Deegan for a "considerable time" as he recovers from blood poisoning. The 31 year old has had 3 operations in an attempt to cure him and has spent 10 days in hospital. Manager Colin Calderwood has said: "Poor old Gary has had a real serious condition, which has been sorted out this week. All that work that he's done through the summer, and his life, has really been put on hold. It'll be a considerable time I think and he's got to wait until everything settles down in his body a little bit. From a personal point of view, with his wife being pregnant and him in a hospital, it's tough."

Trotters Takeover Moves Closer

The takeover by Football Ventures (Whites) Limited of Bolton Wanderers is expected to be completed by the end of the week according to the BBC. The company, set up with the sole purpose of buying Bolton, were chosen as preferred bidders at the beginning of the month. It comes at a time when the club have just lost a third pre-season friendly, after Oldham Athletic cancelled a proposed match due to the uncertainty surrounding the club, which has seen two previous games called off.

Oyston Sacked

Karl Oyston, the son of former Blackpool owner Owen, has been dismissed by the League One club. Oyston was suspended in February 2018 and had started legal action against the club earlier this year due to a dispute over wages. A Tangerines statement gave little details: "Blackpool Football Club can confirm that it has today dismissed its former chairman Karl Oyston, who was previously suspended in early 2018. The club will be making no further comment on the matter."

Paddy McGuinness Look-A-Like Takes Reading Role

Former Manchester United and Sunderland 'defender' John O'Shea has decided against a career as a Paddy McGuinness impersonator (or should that be lookey-likey?) to take up a coaching role at Reading. The 38 year old retired in the summer after 11 games with the Royals last season.

Bribery Ban For BFA Man

Former Botswana FA general secretary Mooketsi Kgotlele has been banned for life by FIFA for accepting bribes. FIFA's Independent Ethics Committee found him "guilty of having accepted bribes in relation to the manipulation of international matches." As well as the life ban from football-related activities, Kgotlele has also been fined US$51,000.

Xavier Replaced By Matine

Following Mozambique's failure to qualify for the summer's Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Egypt, former Liverpool and Everton defender Abel Xavier has been let go by the national team and replaced by Victor Matine. Matine, who works as a PE teacher, was an assistant to Xavier and has previously coached the national under-23 and under-20 sides.

Butt Promoted

Former Newcastle United midfielder Nicky Butt has been promoted to head of first-team development by Manchester United. The 44 year old, who came through the academy at Man Utd, was head of that academy until the new role. Nick Cox has been promoted to take his place at the academy.

Bucharest Manager Collapses

The manager of Dinamo Bucharest, Eugen Neagoe, is in a stable condition in hospital after collapsing on the sidelines during a 2-0 defeat to Universitatea Craiova. The 51 year old began to feel ill in the 24th minute of the league match and was given a drink of water, only to begin breathing heavily and then fainted. Play was stopped for 15 minutes while he was treated at pitchside before being taken to hospital where he remains under observation.

Toon Reported By Owls

Sheffield Wednesday have reported Newcastle United to the Premier League after the Tyneside club appointed Steve Bruce as manager. Bruce walked out on Wednesday after speaking with Newcastle over their vacant managerial post, before being confirmed as new manager of Newcastle. A statement from the Yorkshire club read: "Following Newcastle United's announcement on 17 July 2019 of its appointment of former Sheffield Wednesday staff Steve Bruce, Steve Agnew and Stephen Clemence, the club confirms that it has today reported Newcastle United's conduct to the Premier League. As the Premier League will now initiate and carry out investigations into the club's allegations, the club will not be commenting further on this matter whilst such investigations are ongoing."

CR7 Avoids Rape Charges

Cristiano Ronaldo is not to be charged with sexual assault as US prosecutors say the claims could not be proven beyond reasonable doubt. The accusations stem from 2009, just before Ronaldo signed for Real Madrid from Manchester United.
