Injury Round-Up

St Mirren striker Cody Cooke will be out for most of the season after being ruled out for 9 months as he ruptured knee ligaments during a League Cup draw with Albion Rovers. Manager Jim Goodwin said: "Cody's unfortunately picked up a really bad injury. We're looking at surgery, then probably six-to-nine-months rehab. We're all disappointed for him as he's a great boy. I don't think I've had terrible luck. Of course the League Cup could have gone better but we just haven't been able to score enough goals. These things happen and it just emphasised the need for players. However, I've got great confidence in the boys here. It's not doom and gloom and there is no need for anyone to stress."

Millwall Fined Over Racists Chants

South London side Millwall have once again found themselves in trouble over racist chants, as fans could be heard chanting a derogatory word for Asians during their FA Cup 4th round win over Everton in January. The Football Association found that the club had "failed to use all due diligence" to ensure their supporters refrained from the use of racist language. Millwall have said they disagree with the FA's findings but will not be appealing: "Anyone found guilty of discrimination of any sort at The Den is not just issued with an immediate ban, but also offered the opportunity to attend Millwall For All's 'Fan Diversity Scheme', which aims to educate rather than simply just exclude. Education is key when it comes to dealing with people with unpalatable views and football clubs should be at the forefront of efforts to do so."

Liverpool Sell Melwood

Liverpool have completed a deal to sell their Melwood training ground to not-for-profit trust Torus for an undisclosed fee. The Liverpool first team will be moving to the specially built new site in Kirkby that also house the academy. Melwood was revolutionised after the arrival of Bill Shankly as Liverpool manager, who found little more than a wasteland when he arrived to take charge of the then-struggling second tier club.

Ref Hit By Object Thrown From Crowd

Hungarian side Honved have said that their Europa League qualifying match against Romanian team Universitatea Craiova should have been called off after the referee was hit by an object thrown from the crowd. The game ended in farce as a brawl broke out between the two sets of players in the last minute of extra time and a smoke bomb was thrown from the stands. Northern Irish referee Arnold Hunter was then hit by the thrown object and required treatment and the game was held up for over half an hour before the assistant referee took charge. The game eventually resumed and Craiova won 3-1 on penalties to reach the next qualifying round.
