Hearts Say Pitch Is Fine

Despite pictures emerging of their new £1m hybrid pitch showing large swathes of discoloured grass and a game at home on Saturday against Ross County, Heart of Midlothian have claimed their pitch is ready for "elite-level football". Though I am not sure how that is relevant as they play in the SPFL, so nowhere near "elite-level". Tynecastle hosted the opening concert of the Edinburgh Festival, which looks to have damaged the pitch but Hearts said: "The de-rigging of the event was completed on schedule. Our pitch consultants, STRI Group, were contracted to advise and manage the pitch protection process on our behalf, working throughout with our own groundstaff. We have always known that the event would have an impact on the aesthetics of the pitch - however, there would be no impact on its playability. Indeed, as we expected, independent testing carried out post-event has revealed that the traction (or stability of the pitch) is well within the acceptable parameters for elite-level football and the pitch firmness is optimal for play. In short, there have been no unforeseen issues relating to the pitch and the first team will train on it, as usual, on Friday."

Naysmith Takes Manager Role To Manage 1 Player

Staying with Hearts and they have appointed former player Gary Naysmith as loan manager of the club. He was recently sacked by Championship outfit Queen of the South as he managed them to a finish in the relegation play-off places last season. Hearts have just one player on loan, Bulgarian defender Alex Petkov.

Romanians To Play Behind Closed Doors

Universitatea Craiova will have to play their next two home games behind closed doors due to a referee being hit by an object thrown from the crowd. They have also been fined £55,000 and given a 3rd game suspended for 2 years. They are also facing charges over racist behaviour, crowd disturbances, setting off fireworks and insufficient organisation. Their opponents Honved have also been charged with racist behaviour, crowd disturbances and improper conduct of the team.
