Transfers

Shinji Okazaki has signed for SD Huesca on a free transfer.

Portmore United in Jamaica have signed Cory Burke from Philadelphia Union on loan.

Leicester City winger Fousseni Diabate has joined SC Amiens on loan.

Marseille paid nearly £12m to sign French midfielder Valentin Rongier from Nantes.

Free agent defender Michael Harriman has signed for Northampton Town on a short-term deal.

Another free agent, midfielder Ben Pringle, has signed for Gillingham until the end of the season with a club option to extend by a year.

 


Injury Round-Up

Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte has been under the knife in Barcelona to repair the knee he injured in the match versus Brighton & Hove Albion. There has been no indication of how long he will be out for after his cartilage and lateral meniscus in his right knee was damaged.

Norwich City defender Timm Klose has been ruled out for a "lengthy spell" after suffering knee ligament damage in a Carabao Cup match against Crawley Town.

The Hazard brothers, Eden and Thorgan, are set to miss Belgium's Euro 2020 qualifiers agaisnt Scotland and San Marino due to injury.

 


KP Close To Leeds Deal

Leeds United managing director Angus Kinnear has told the BBC that midfielder Kalvin Phillips is very close to agreeing a new deal with the club, despite interest from elsewhere in his services. Kinnear said: "He deserves a new contract. He is at the very heart of what we want to achieve. He is a local lad and he knows what it means to play for Leeds United. We've had very constructive chats with him and his agent and I think we are very close. The credit to him is that he hasn't let the discussions influence or distract him in any way. He couldn't have been more committed or focused and has started the season fantastically."

 


Tigers Defender Diagnosed With Cancer

Hull City defender Angus MacDonald is one of the most unlucky people around after being diagnosed with bowel cancer. The 26 year old defender spent most of last season on the sidelines after being diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis in November 2018. He had previously suffered with a blood clot on the lung while just 15. The cancer has been found in the early stages and Hull said that MacDonald's "physical and mental wellbeing are our number one priority at this moment in time. Angus has shown great strength of character in the way he has reacted to this news. The whole Tigers family join together in showing Angus continued love and will support him in his recovery."

 


Nigerian FA Facing More Investigations

Nigeria's Football Federation (NFF) is being investigated again by the country's anti-corruption agency, the EFCC. An EFCC spokesperson said: "What I can confirm is that officials of the Nigeria Football Federation are being investigated by the agency."

 


Jatta Complaints Withdrawn

Three German clubs have withdrawn their complaint about the eligibility of Hamburg player Bakery Jatta. Nuremberg, VfL Bochum and Karlsruher SC had questioned Jatta's true identity and age and media reports had claimed he was previously known as Bakery Daffeh and was older than his claimed age of 21. However the local authority in Hamburg could find no reason to take action.

Former Germany International Investigated Over Child Pornography

Retired former German international Christoph Metzelder is under investigation over allegations of distributing child pornography. The 38 year old is accused of sending images containing child pornographic content via WhatsApp.

 


Juve Upset Players

Emre Can has been reported as saying he is very angry after being left out of Juventus's squad for the Champions League group stages by manager Maurizio Sarri. Mario Mandzukic has also been omitted, with both players close to summer moves away, before choosing to stay put after, according to the reported quotes by Can, being promised they would be in the squad for European games.
