Review of the Day
Contracts
Former Liverpool goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi has signed a new 4 year deal with RB Leipzig.
Cambridge United manager Colin Calderwood has signed a 2 year contract extension.
Transfers
Veteran midfielder Michael Timlin has re-signed for Stevenage. The 34 year old left in the summer after failing to agree a new contract but has now returned on a free after failing to find another club.
Injury Round-Up
Celtic left-back Boli Bolingoli has been ruled out of their game against Kilmarnock on Sunday with a groin strain. Manager Neil Lennon said: "Hopefully he'll only miss one or two games. It's a slight groin strain and he just felt it getting progressively worse. Obviously he didn't want it further deteriorating and taking him out for a considerable period of time."
Latics Appoint Maamria
Oldham Athletic have sacked their head coach Laurent Banide. The former Monaco boss had won just 2 games of the 11 he was in charge of the Lancashire side for. Replacing him is Dino Maamria, who was sacked by Stevenage earlier this month after they failed to win any of their first 7 games of the season.
Appleton Handed Chance To Succeed The Cowleys
Lincoln City have found their replacement for the Cowley brothers, who left to take over at Huddersfield Town, in the shape of Michael Appleton. Appleton was in charge of West Bromwich Albion's under-23's side, having not managed since leaving Oxford United in June 2017 to take up the job of assistant manager at Leicester City. The Imps currently sit 8th in League One, after winning promotion from the 4th tier last season.
Conceicao Replaces Seedorf
Cameroon's national team will be led by former CFR Cluj manager Toni Conceicao, with legendary former Cameroon international Francois Omam Biyik assisting him. This is Portugese coach Conceicao's first time as a national team boss and he is taking over from Clarence Seedorf who was sacked following the Indomitable Lions poor showing in the summer's AFCON tournament in Egypt.
Teenage Prodigy Gets Citizenship
Barcelona's 16 year old wunderkind Ansu Fati has been granted Spanish citizenship after completing 10 years of residency in the European nation. It now makes him eligible to play for Spain, as well as Guinea-Bissau. It has been reported that he could potentially also play for Portugal through grandparents nationality. It is expected he will be called up by Spain for the Under-17 World Cup.
Celtic Fined
UEFA have his Celtic with an £11,000 fine for fans setting off flares and throwing objects in a Europa League play-off victory over AIK in Stockholm last month. Celtic had claimed it was local rivals Hammarby whose fans had infiltrated the away end and caused the problem which saw fans clashing with police. AIK were also fined £7,000 for stairways being blocked.
Milan Set Up Anti-Racism Task Force
AC Milan are to launch an anti-racism task force this weekend at their derby game with Inter Milan. Italian football has been beset with incidences of racial abuse which have been dismissed by the authorities or called 'compliments', not least when Inter's summer signing from Manchester United Romelu Lukaku was barracked with monkey chants when taking a penalty against Cagliari. Worse was to come when Inter's ultras told him, in not so many words, to stop whining as the abuse was a compliment! Milan's chief executive Ivan Gazidiz said: "Italian football must wake up. Football provides a powerful example of the strength of unity and teamwork. Diversity, inclusion and tolerance enhance the strength of the team, the club and of society as a whole. We believe that we have a moral obligation to do everything we can to address this issue." The new taskforce is to look to increase awareness and monitor and address racist behaviour at the stadium and on social media.
Brazil Name Squad For Next Month's Friendlies
Brazil have named a 23 man squad for their 2 friendlies to be played in October in Singapore.
Brazil squad:
Goalkeepers: Ederson, Santos, and Weverton.
Defenders: Dani Alves, Danilo, Alex Sandro, Renan Lodi, Rodrigo Caio, Marquinhos, Thiago Silva and Eder Militao.
Midfielders: Casemiro, Fabinho, Arthur, Matheus Henrique, Lucas Paqueta and Philippe Coutinho.

Rebic Gets European Ban
New AC Milan signing Ante Rebic has been given a 5 match ban by UEFA for his red card received in a Europa League match with Eintracht Frankfurt last month. The Croatian insulted the referee resulting in an increased ban. Milan are not in Europe this year, so the ban will not come into effect yet.
