Review of the Day

Contracts

Fortuna Dusseldorf of the Bundesliga have given Polish striker Dawid Kownacki a 4 year contract.

Injury Round-Up

Heart of Midlothian are hoping to have Austrian midfielder Peter Haring available again soon. The 26 year old has been missing since last season's Scottish Cup final after surgery to correct a pelvic problem. Hearts manager Craig Levein said: "Peter is back from Austria and he's starting training. He won't be far from coming back. Walker is improving, John is improving, Steven is improving. In the next couple of weeks I'm sure we'll start to see players coming back which makes me feel much better."

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is expected to return from an ankle injury to face League One Rochdale in the Carabao Cup today.

Chelsea left-back Emerson Palmieri will be missing for at least a month with the thigh injury he suffered in the 2-1 defeat to Liverpool on Sunday. Andreas Christensen, who suffered a knee problem in the same game, is not expected to be out for too long but Blues manager Frank Lampard was unable to give a date for his return.

Orient Caretaker To Return To Assistant Role

Ross Embleton took interim charge of Leyton Orient in June after the death of manager Justin Edinburgh and is now set to step back down to his previous role of assistant manager. The 37 year old said: "We've tried to find normality in the way we've come to work every day and we've started to find that. From a personal perspective, after what happened in the summer and the situation that everyone found themselves in, I felt it was the right thing for me to step forward and take responsibility. It was on the terms of trying to find stability for the football club again. Have we achieved that? I think we have." The League Two club have revealed that they are close to appointing a new manager.

Red Devils Announce Record Revenues

Manchester United CEO Edward Woodward has said that the club's primary aim is to win trophies after announcing record revenues of £627.1m for the last financial year. Woodward said: "We remain focused on our plan of rebuilding the team and continuing to strengthen our youth system, in line with the philosophy of the club and the manager. This is reflected in the recent addition of three exciting first-team players, key player contract extensions and the talent we have coming through our academy. Everyone at Manchester United is committed to delivering on our primary objective of winning trophies."

FIFA Best Awards

I doubt any of you have not already seen the winners, but just in case anyone was lucky enough to avoid the tiresome overly glitzy awards ceremony and its results, here are some of them:
FIFA's Puskas Award (for the best goal of the year) - Daniel Zsori, Debrecen
Best Manager - Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool
Best Goalkeeper - Alisson Becker, Liverpool
Best Player - Lionel Messi, Barcelona
Fair Play Award - Marcelo Bielsa & the Leeds United squad
Men's World 11: Alisson, Matthijs de Ligt, Marcelo (really?!?), Sergio Ramos, Virgil van Dijk, Frenkie de Jong, Eden Hazard, Luka Modric, Cristiano Ronaldo, Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi.

Non-League Game Suspended Over Racist Abuse

Even the non-league game is becoming infested by the idiots who shout racial abuse as a match between Hartlepool United and Dover Athletic was stopped for 10 minutes after Inih Effiong scored to give Dover the lead. Effiong was abused by a small group of fans and both Hartlepool boss Craig Hignett and Dover boss Andy Hessenthaler admitted they discussed taking the teams off the pitch. Hartlepool stated: "Since Saturday, the club has remained fully focused on taking positive action and understood that we were likely to receive attention from the Football Association. We recognise that it is important that they are seen to take decisive action to protect the integrity of football. We can confirm that the FA has, at this stage, asked for our observations surrounding Saturday's events, including the racist chanting and various other events during and immediately after the game. We will answer the necessary questions, as well as providing a list of the actions we have taken since Saturday."

UEFA Venues

UEFA have confirmed the venues for the next few years' finals with the Champions League final set for St Petersburg in 2021, Munich in 2022 and Wembley in 2023, Wembley's centenary year. They also confirmed that the 2021 Europa League final will be hosted in Seville and Belfast's Windsor Park will be home to 2021's Super Cup final. UEFA also confirmed that they will be introducing VAR to the Europa League in the knockout stages, which begin in February. A third European competition will also be (re)introduced in 2021, which will be named UEFA Europa Conference League. Talk about a horribly unwieldy name!

Klopp Joins Common Goal

Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata's initiative to get football players and coaches to donate 1% of their salary to charity got a huge boost at the FIFA Best Awards as Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp announced he has signed up. After telling people to "Google it", the Common Goal website crashed due to the deluge of people trying to look at it! Klopp is the first manager in the Premier League to sign up, which also only has three of the obscenely wealthy Premier League footballers involved, other than Mata. Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, Bournemouth defender Charlie Daniels and Brighton & Hove Albion defender Leon Balogun are the three players to sign up.

Hammers Ban Fan For Life

After West Ham United were made aware of "disgusting" racist remarks made by a Hammers fan to away fans at their London Stadium they have banned the culprit for life. A video of the incident, which took place early last season, had been circulating on social media and West Ham say they have "zero tolerance of abhorrent behaviour." The Hammers wrote on social media: "The club handed evidence to the police and banned an individual for life from our stadium. No place for it at our club."
