Motherwell Clear Debts

Motherwell have confirmed that they have paid off all loans to their former owners John Boyle and Les Hutchison. Over £1.5m has been paid back through selling first team players over the last 3 years. A fans' group called the Well Society bought the club from Hutchison in 2016 making them the first club in the SPFL to be fully owned by fans. The Well now owe just £80,000 to outside parties, which has come in the form of loans from five fans. Club chairman Jim McMahon said: "From the moment the Well Society took over the majority interest, our collective energy has been firmly focused on ensuring the club is sustainable on a medium to long-term basis. A key part of that has been eliminating the debt we inherited and we have now almost achieved that. For the club to have paid back such a significant amount in just over two years is a remarkable feat."
